Paris Hilton's Prison Break
'Medical reasons' pulled the celebutante out of jail
June 7, 2007
America's favorite socialite is no longer behind bars.
After only serving a few days in a Lynwood, Calif., jail, Paris Hilton was freed from jail Thursday morning (June 7), the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department stated. Her release was first reported by TMZ.com.
At a press conference, spokesman Steve Whitmore announced that Hilton will serve the remainder of her sentence at home for medical reasons. The heiress was originally sentenced to 45 days, which was reduced to 23 days for various reasons, including good behavior. Now that she's going to be confined at home, she will have to serve the remainder of her sentence, 40 days. She has received credit for five days served since she entered Lynwood late Sunday night.
This means that Hilton will be trading her snazzy orange jumpsuit for a stylish ankle bracelet that will allow the L.A. County Probation Department to keep tabs on her.
Hilton is serving time for violating probation for a DUI case. Before entering prison, the socialite made an appearance at the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday.
