Pangilinan tops precinct count in San Francisco
Independent candidate Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan topped the "Magic 12" in the latest vote count from three polling precincts at the Philippine Consulate in San Francisco, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau reported Tuesday.
It took the electoral boards five hours to check and verify 1,190 absentee ballots. The vote counting began at 5 a.m. California time.
The special boards of election inspectors counted ballots cast for senators and party-list groups. As of noon, 439 ballots have been counted and tallied in the precincts at the San Francisco Consulate.
The Genuine Opposition senatorial bets enjoyed a slight edge over the administration's Team Unity.
Pangilinan topped the "Magic 12", with over 300 votes. Re-electionist Manuel "Manny" Villar is 2nd, followed by Loren Legarda. Joker Arroyo is 4th; Ralph Recto is 5th, followed by Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino.
Francis "Chiz" Escudero is 7th; Mike Defensor, 8th; Panfilo "Ping" Lacson is 9th; Alan Peter Cayetano, Edgardo Angara and Sonia Roco round up the Magic 12.
There is no clear frontrunner among the 55 party-list groups since quite a number of voters did not vote for a party-list group.
Very few voted for dual citizen Teodoro "Ted" Aquino. But since he was disqualified and is not on the official list of candidates, officials had to declare them stray votes.
Twenty voters waited till the last-minute to cast their ballots, beating the midnight deadline.
Consular officers and employees were in full force for the meticulous and transparent process of counting and tallying. With a report from Ging Reyes
