Fast National ratings for Sunday, Sept. 23, 2007
A matchup of two high-profile teams on "Sunday Night Football" carried NBC to a ratings win Sunday, beating out a host of season premieres on CBS and FOX.
NBC scored an 8.9 rating/15 share in primetime. CBS finished second at 7.0/11, and FOX -- which also got a boost from football -- was third at 6.4/10. ABC's 4.6/7 took fourth, while The CW barely registered at 0.9/2.
Among adults 18-49, NBC's 5.8 rating grabbed the top spot, beating out FOX's 4.9. CBS was a distant third at 2.4, edging out ABC's 2.3. The CW managed only a 0.5.
Late-afternoon NFL games and "The OT" post-game show averaged 7.8/14 for FOX at 7 p.m. CBS got a 7.6/13 from "60 Minutes." NBC's "Football Night in America" drew a 4.7/8. A repeat of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" put ABC in fourth. The premieres of "CW Now" and "Online Nation" were ignored in great numbers, averaging a miniscule 0.7/1 for The CW.
A "Sunday Night Football" game between the Dallas Cowboys and Chicago Bears scored a 9.9/16 for NBC at 8 p.m. The season premieres of "The Simpsons," 5.6/9, and "King of the Hill," 4.5/7, came in second for FOX. CBS' "Power of 10," 5.0/8, finished third in households, but a second hour of "EM: Home Edition" on ABC, 4.9/8, snagged a few more total viewers. The CW aired a repeat of the "Gossip Girl" premiere.
The Cowboys-Bears game on NBC improved to 10.5/16 at 9 p.m. "Cold Case" began its season on CBS with a 7.9/12. An hour-long season premiere for "Family Guy," 6.2/9, took third for FOX, topping a "Desperate Housewives" clip show, 6.1/9, on ABC. The CW went with an "America's Next Top Model" rerun.
At 10 p.m., "Sunday Night Football" posted a 10.7/18. The season premiere of "Shark" delivered a 7.6/13 for CBS, and a "Brothers & Sisters" clip show on ABC came in at 3.8/6.
