SmackDown! Going Live Once A Month Soon?
According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com (and several other sources), WWE is seriously considering doing 1 live Smackdown broadcast per month on weeks where the company has a Pay-Per-View. WWE would do run a live Smackdown broadcasts on the Friday preceeding the PPV, then close out the weekend with the regular live RAW taping on Monday night.
From what I'm being told, the PPV-weekend live shows would not begin until this fall, when the series moves to MyNetworkTV.
While the monthly live broadcasts are not confirmed yet, WWE will broadcast a live edition of Smackdown on Friday April 3rd in Houston, Texas as part of the Wrestlemania XXV weekend festivities.
WWE wants to improve the image of the SmackDown brand as a whole once it moves to MyNetworkTV, which is why they were drafted big names like Triple H and Jim Ross.
