Fast National ratings for Sunday, Dec. 30, 2007 (USA)

The end of the NFL regular season carried NBC to a ratings victory on a relatively quiet Sunday night.

NBC averaged a 7.2 rating/12 share in primetime, beating out CBS, 6.2/10, for the top spot. FOX took third with a 4.7/8, just beating ABC's 4.6/8. The CW drew a negligible 0.6/1.

The Peacock also led among adults 18-49 with a 4.2 rating. FOX came in second in the key demographic with a 3.4. CBS, 2.5, was third, followed by ABC at 2.0. The CW barely registered.

Late NFL games and "60 Minutes" averaged 7.7/13 for CBS at 7 p.m. FOX finished second with its own football coverage and "The OT," 6.6/11. "Football Night in America," 4.0/7, put NBC in third. ABC got a 3.4/6 from its showing of "The Sound of Music," while The CW went with "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" rerun.

NBC moved into the lead at 8 p.m. with its NFL telecast, which scored a 7.3/12. CBS fell one spot to second as "60 Minutes" and "The Amazing Race" averaged 7.1/11. "The Sound of Music" moved ABC ahead of FOX, which aired repeats of "The Simpsons," 4.2/7, and "King of the Hill," 3.5/6. A "Life Is Wild" rerun ran on The CW.

"Sunday Night Football," featuring the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans, improved to 8.7/14 for NBC at 9 p.m. ABC climbed one more spot as "The Sound of Music" drew a 5.5/9, tying "The Amazing Race" and a "Cold Case" rerun on CBS (ABC had more total viewers). "Family Guy" and "American Dad" averaged 3.7/6 for FOX. The CW finished its night with a repeat of "Crowned."

The Titans-Colts game held steady for NBC at 10 p.m., posting an 8.7/15. "The Sound of Music" finished with a 5.1/9 for ABC, beating the 4.7/8 for "Cold Case" and "Shark" on CBS.

The following results are based on the fast affiliate ratings (Live Plus Same Day data)

-Total Viewers:
CBS: 13.70 million, NBC: 11.67, Fox: 5.44, ABC: 4.31

-Adults 18-49:

-Ratings Breakdown:

Yes, my friends, it was a big night of television on Saturday this week courtesy of CBS and NBC airing the New England Patriots versus New York Giants football match-up. CBS’ coverage averaged a dominant 13.70 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-11 p.m. And NBC’s coverage was healthy at 11.67 million viewers and a 4.0/12 in the demo. Together, the two networks totaled 25.37 million viewers and an 8.5/25 among adults 18-49 on Saturday. Lesson to be learned: with the right programming, the broadcast nets can still attract an audience on Saturday.

Elsewhere, Fox finished third in each half hour as a result of Cops (Viewers: 5.28 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 6) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: 5.59 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6). And ABC came in last with its repeat combination of four episodes of sitcom Samantha Who? (Viewers: 4.07 million; A18-49: 1.3/ 4) and drama Women’s Murder Club (Viewers: 4.79 million; A18-49: 1.2/ 3).

Comments:

ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CW

The Writers Guild of America (West and East) affected the weekly performance of the 4 networks, an exception can be MyNetworkTV, the network that doesn't have much original programming. ABC, CBS, NBC dropped in the Adults 18-49 demographic. ABC dropped 5%, CBS dropped 10%, NBC dropped 11% (and worse, the network's scripted shows, even one didn't reach the title as the "top notcher"). And this January, FOX has nothing to worry because of its non-WGA reality hit, American Idol.

THE CW

The CW is doing an under-average performance, the reason may be that The CW aired Crowned: Mother of All Pageants encore (and the same episode aired 3 times a week), which performed under a million viewers (900,000+ viewers).

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! may bring the household rating up to 1.0+ (current: 0.9 household rating/2% share) and it did, SmackDown! raised the average to 1.2 HH rating. Without the WWE's SmackDown! how will The CW compete on Friday nights?

ABC

ABC is doing fine but since the strike began, ABC in the demograph dropped by 5%. But with out the the presence of Dancing With the Stars, ABC may have to think of another reality show, which they did by introducing Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann to the public, premiering on January 7 at 8 p.m. ET (9:00 am, Philippine time) ABC may have hope.

NBC

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
and Late Night with Conan O'Brien will be returning on January 2, 2008 without writers. These are the staples of late night. ABC may not have to worry because they got Nightline, which is the a late night news program and took the honors in the past days. But a Leno repeat did score some couple of top spots, I think.

[Mega Manila] TV Ratings (Dec. 21-25): AGB Nielsen still unstoppable

The Holiday season may have affected the ratings of all the programs, but not even the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) issued by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court can stop the AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines from releasing the overnight ratings among Mega Manila households.

As a result, ABS-CBN, who requested the TRO against AGB, filed a contempt charge against the survey firm last December 26. But AGB insists that the TRO only covered the Bacolod province, where the alleged tampering of sample households occurred, and not the other parts of the country, like Mega Manila.

AGB still released overnight ratings among Mega Manila households from December 21 to 25.

As mentioned earlier, the Christmas rush took its toll in the ratings game as the figures obviously dipped, especially on Christmas eve (December 24) and on Christmas day (December 25).

The longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga! remained strong, topping the daytime race Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Although, Daisy Siete grabbed the number one spot on Christmas day. Meanwhile, GMA-7's musical variety show SOP took the lead last Sunday.

In the primetime race, Marimar continues its dominance although way below its usual 40-plus ratings. Marimar posted 38.6 percent last December 21, 30.8 percent on Christmas eve, and 35.3 percent on Christmas day.

After just over a month of airing, Princess Sarah had its final episode last Friday, Dec. 21, posting the highest rating of any ABS-CBN shows that day—22 percent. Princess Sarah has been replaced by a Koreanovela, Spring Waltz, which premiered on Christmas day.

The December doldrums hit the ratings pretty hard Thursday, but CBS came through relatively unscathed thanks to its crime dramas.

CBS averaged a 6.7 rating/12 share for the night, winning the Nielsen race by a pretty wide margin. ABC finished second in households at 3.7/6, while FOX, 3.3/6, had more total viewers (6.18 million to ABC's 5.08 million). NBC managed only a scant 2.6/4, and The CW trailed at 1.1/2.

The adults 18-49 title also went to CBS, which drew a 2.4 rating in the demographic. FOX, 2.1, finished second. ABC and NBC tied at 1.6, and The CW brought up the rear with a 0.6.

At 10 p.m., "Without a Trace" earned a 6.9/12 for CBS, dominating the hour. ABC's "Private Practice" rerun came in second at 3.5/6, a point better than "ER" on NBC.

World: Former Paskitani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto assassinated.

PLEASE COMMENT ON THIS IF YOU WANT TO...

ABC News

Former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was killed today, moments after this image was taken, at an opposition rally she was addressing in the town of Rawalpindi. At least twenty others are reported killed. (APTN/ABC News)

Pakistan is reeling from grief and angrily rioting after opposition leader Benazir Bhutto was killed today by an assassin who shot her twice and then blew himself up.

Within minutes of the former prime minister's death, furious and heart broken supporters began breaking windows at the hospital where she died, burning campaign posters of President Pervez Musharraf and stoning police and passing cars.

Within hours, several banks, government offices and cars were burning in Hyderabad. Shop owners in Karachi locked their doors in protest and self-defense. A train was halted and set on fire along with government-run grocery stores and election offices. Car tires were set ablaze in cities across the country to block intersections in protests that raised fears the entire country could be engulfed in violence.

Musharraf appeared on national TV to blame terrorists for Bhutto's death and vowed to kill or capture her murderers. But he also urged the country to remain calm and put the country's paramilitary forces on "red alert" to contain the fury.

The unrest was fiercest in Bhutto's native Sindh province and its capital, Karachi, where two police officers were wounded.

"Police in Sindh have been put on red alert," said a senior police official. "We have increased deployment and are patrolling in all the towns and cities, as there is trouble almost everywhere."

Nawaz Sharif, another former prime minister and opposition leader, said his party would boycott next month's elections.

"I demand that Musharraf should quit immediately," Sharif added.

Pakistan's distress was displayed when her wooden coffin was taken from the hospital to an ambulance and thousands of Pakistanis surged around, trying to touch it. It was only with difficulty that they were able to push through the sea of people, the coffin riding overhead on the hands of dozens of jostled pallbearers as they struggled to reach the ambulance.

Bhutto was among at least 20 killed in the blast that left the park in the city of Rawalpindi a grisly scene of chaos, body parts and blood.

John Moore, a photographer and eyewitness to Bhutto's assassination, said, "I heard a few gunshots. Benazir -- she fell down under the vehicle and quickly there was a bomb blast. And bodies and pieces of car -- things were flying through the air. There was a stampede, the smell of burned flesh. It was terrible."

Bhutto was rushed to a nearby hospital while rescue workers hurried to put victims in ambulances as people wailed nearby. The clothing of some of the victims was shredded and people put party flags over their bodies. Police caps and shoes littered the asphalt.

In the confusion, it wasn't clear exactly what had happened, but Sardar Qamar Hayyat, a leader from Bhutto's party, said he was standing about 10 yard from Bhutto's vehicle.

She was inside the vehicle and was coming out from the gate after addressing the rally when some of the youths started chanting slogans in her favor," he said. "Then I saw a thin, young man jumping to her vehicle from the back and opening fire. Moments later, I saw her speeding vehicle going away."

Party supporter Chaudry Mohammed Nazir said that two gunshots rang out when Bhutto's vehicle pulled into the main street and that there was a big blast next to her car.

A security adviser to Bhutto's party said she was shot in the neck and chest. The gunman then blew himself up.

Initial reports said Bhutto, 54, was unharmed in the attack, but about an hour later her supporters' worst fears were confirmed.

Sen. Babar Awan, Bhutto's lawyer, said, "The surgeons confirmed that she has been martyred."

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the killing, but at Rawalpindi General Hospital furious Bhutto supporters erupted in anger at Pakistan's president, Pervez Musharraf, chanting "Killer, Killer, Musharraf" and calling him a "liar."

The Pakistani military was in charge of security at the rally and it was the second time since Bhutto returned to Pakistan in October that an assassin slipped past security.

During her triumphant return to the country, Oct. 18, a suicide bomber blew himself up near Bhutto's vehicle, killing more than 140 people. Bhutto survived that attack.

-Ratings Breakdown:

NBC and Fox shared leadership on this low-rated final Wednesday of December, with NBC the most-watched network and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49. But when the most-watched network averages less than 8 million viewers, there is nothing much to say. Third overall was CBS, followed by ABC and lowly the CW, which has not benefited by absurd reality/competition Crowned: The Mother of All Pageants. If you have not seen Crowned yet, check it out. You’ll get a good laugh.

An 8 p.m. repeat of CBS’ Criminal Minds was No. 1 in total viewers in the anchor hour with 9.11 million, and third among adults 18-49, with a 1.9 rating/6 share. The first hour of Fox theatrical Christmas With the Kranks ranked first in the demo (2.3/ 7), and third in total viewers (6.98 million). Overall, Christmas With the Kranks averaged 7.25 million viewers and a 2.4/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. Is anyone really interested seeing a holiday movie after Christmas?

Also airing from 8-9 p.m. was a repeat of Most Outrageous Moments on NBC (Viewers: #2, 7.09 million; A18-49: #2, 2.1/ 6), a repeat of ABC’s Pushing Daisies (Viewers: #4, 4.33 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4), and Crowned: The Mother of all Pageants on the CW (Viewers: #5, 1.81 million; A18-49: #5, 0.7/ 2). Yeesch!

NBC moved into the winner’s circle at 9 p.m. care of a repeat of Law & Order: SVU at 7.84 million viewers (#1) and a 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49 (#2). Second was the first hour of CBS’ annual Kennedy Center Honors (Viewers #3, 6.21 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3), which averaged 6.21 million viewers and a 1.2/ 4 in the demo from 9-11 p.m. Comparably, the year-ago Kennedy Center Honors averaged a heftier 10.0 million viewers and a 1.9/ 5 in the demo on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006. How do you like that Diana Ross, though? She absolutely rocks!

Also in the 9 p.m. hour was a repeat of ABC’s Private Practice (3.0/ 5) and a repeat of the CW’s Gossip Girl (1.0/ 2), which is certainly not the hit the network was hoping for.

Another repeat telecast of NBC’s Law & Order: SVU dominated at 10 p.m., with 8.83 million viewers and a 2.5/ 7 among adults 18-49. Comparably, that was the highest rated show of the evening. In the distant No. 3 spot (also behind the second half of The Kennedy Center Honors on CBS) was a repeat of ABC’s Dirty Sexy Money at 3.37 million viewers and a 1.0/ 3 in the demo.

----------

-Ratings Breakdown:

NBC, the only network to offer an original programming option (Deal or No Deal), led this final December Tuesday in both total viewers and adults 18-49. ABC and FOX tied for the number two and three spots, followed by CBS and lowly the CW.

A two-hour edition of Deal or No Deal opened the evening with a dominant 9.78 million viewers and a 2.6 rating/ 8 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m. That led into a repeat of Law & Order: SVU at 7.60 million viewers (#1) and a second-place 2.1/ 6 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. Sad when the most-watched show in the hour reaches under 8 million viewers.

CBS aired encore telecasts of NCIS (Viewers: #2, 7.12 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 4), The Unit (Viewers: #4, 4.79 million; A18-49: #4, 1.1/ 3) and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #3, 4.18 million; A18-49: #3, 1.2/ 4). Fox aired encore telecasts of Bones (Viewers: #4, 4.28 million; A18-49: #4, 1.3/ 5) and House (Viewers: #2, 7.21 million; A18-49: #2, 2.4/ 8). And Repeat theatrical Pirates of The Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on ABC averaged an uneventful 5.54 million viewers and a 2.0/ 6 in the demo from 8-11 p.m.

Last, and very least, were repeats of the CW’s Crowned: The Mother of all Pageants (Viewers: 938,000; A18-49: 0.4/ 2) and Reaper (Viewers: 901,000; A18-49: 0.4/ 1). Has anyone actually seen Crowned yet? It’s so bad, it’s actually a riot!

International Television: Reruns!

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Dec. 20, 2007

Thursday's ratings were unsurprisingly light, with CBS standing at the front of a not very impressive pack.

CBS averaged a 7.0 rating/12 share for the night, grabbing about 3 million more viewers than its closest competitor. NBC, 4.6/8, finished second in households, but FOX (4.5/8) had more viewers -- 7.38 million to NBC's 6.93 million. ABC came in fourth with a 3.9/7, and The CW trailed with a 1.3/2.

Among adults 18-49, CBS' 2.8 rating was good enough to grab the top spot. FOX took second in the demographic with a 2.3, edging NBC's 2.2. ABC averaged 1.9 and The CW 0.8.

A "CSI" rerun, 5.9/10, put CBS on top at 8 p.m. NBC finished second with "Clash of the Choirs," 5.2/9. "Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader?," 4.7/8, was third for FOX, beating the 4.2/7 ABC got from "Duel." The CW went with a "Smallville" rerun.

CBS stayed on top at 9 p.m. as a second hour of "CSI" improved to 7.3/12. The "Clash of the Choirs" finale posted a 5.6/9 for NBC. FOX's "Don't Forget the Lyrics" scored a 4.4/7. A "Grey's Anatomy" repeat on ABC came in fourth, while "Supernatural" scored a 1.2/2 for The CW.

"Without a Trace" finished the CBS sweep with a 7.8/14 at 10 p.m. "Private Practice" (rerun) earned a 3.6/6, and an "Office" repeat on NBC averaged 3.1/5.

From PEP, AGB-ABS-GMA --- Boohooo!

AGB-Nielsen's failure to conduct probe prompted TRO issuance

ABS-CBN sent PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) a copy of the Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) issued by Judge Charito B. Gonzales of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 80 earlier today, December 20, against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines.

As reported earlier today, the court granted ABS-CBN's request for AGB Nielsen to refrain from releasing any data on television ratings after reports of bribery and cheating involving the sampled households in Bacolod surfaced last week.

The Lopez-owned network filed a legal complaint against the media research body last December 14 after AGB Nielsen allegedly failed to conduct an investigation on the anomaly report as narrated by an informant who requested anonymity.

According to the informant, some people are being hired by an outside party to bribe the households included in the survey to switch channels in favor of a particular "network" subsequently betraying their normal viewing behavior.

FAILURE TO PROBE. Based on the content of the three-page document, the court took note of AGB Nielsen's failure to conduct an investigation to shed light on the alleged anomaly.

"Plaintiff [ABS-CBN], through counsel, demanded that the defendant shut down its TAM [Television Audience Measurement] data polling operations nationwide and to disclose to all its clients that the integrity of its panel homes was seriously compromised and that the plaintiff was not responsible therefore."

The failure of AGB Nielsen to "ensure the confidentiality of the panel homes and the accuracy and reliability of the TAM" was stressed in the TRO. As mentioned, it is AGB Nielsen's responsibility to its clients to deliver data that are untainted and devoid of any doubts—conditions that were strictly agreed upon in the TAM Service Contract signed by ABS-CBN when it decided to do business with AGB Nielsen.

BEYOND NETWORK RIVALRY. The court also addressed that sensitivity of the issue on hand involving two stations—GMA-7 and ABS-CBN—that have a history of animosity when it comes to audience and advertising share-two important factors why a television ratings survey is being conducted by an independent body.

"If a slight difference in the ratings means a lot, what more could a tainted TAM data bring to either or both of the rivals?" asked the court.

The points raised by the court in accordance to those by ABS-CBN prompted the issuance of a temporary restraining order in the releasing of TV ratings data for twenty (20) days.

Hearing of the case was scheduled on January 7, 2008 at 1:30 in the afternoon, wherein all parties involved with the case are invited to show up and submit their respective affidavits.

Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 17, 2007 (USA)

An original episode of "CSI: Miami" and decent showings by its comedy repeats gave CBS a ratings win Monday.

CBS averaged a 7.1 rating/11 share for the night to beat the competition by a fair margin. The rest of the big three were tightly bunched, with NBC's 4.6/7 coming in second ahead of ABC, 4.3/7, and FOX, 4.2/7 (FOX had slightly more total viewers than ABC). The CW trailed with a 1.1/2.

Mega Manila TV Ratings: December 14-16, 2007 (Friday - Sunday)

{Mega Manila} TV Ratings (Dec. 14-16): "Daisy Siete" grabs Friday leadership

ABS-CBN's impending courtroom battle against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines did nothing to faze the SexBomb dancers as their program, Daisy Siete, landed straight to the No. 1 spot last Friday, December 14, on the strength of its 19.2 percent rating.

Once again the gang led by Rochelle Panganiban edged out Paolo Bediones and Rufa Mae Quinto's Whammy! Push Your Luck, which garnered a 19.0 percent rating to settle for second place.

The country's longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga!, in the meantime, was in third place with a 18.8 percent rating, while Willie Revillame's Wowowee (15.8 percent) was at fifth spot behind Pasan Ko ang Daigdig (17.7 percent).

Three is not a crowd for Takeshi's Castle; Pilipinas, Game KNB? and Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal as they shared the sixth spot bearing identical 15.0 percent ratings.

Completing the daytime cast last Friday was Kristine Hermosa's Prinsesa ng Banyera, which amassed a 10.1 percent rating to catch the last bus.

Friday primetime was still a one-way street with Marimar leading the evening cast with a commanding 42.7 percent, followed by Kamandag's 37.4 percent. All five spots were occupied by GMA-7 shows—the other three being Zaido, La Vendetta, and 24 Oras.

Coming in at No. 6 was Vhong Navarro's Lastikman with a rating of 22.8 percent. Trailing at No.7 was Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition (21.9 percent).

Saturday was once again ruled by Eat Bulaga. Asserting its weekend supremacy anew, Tito, Vic & Joey's show managed to keep a safe distance against the team of Pinoy ring icon Manny Pacquiao and college basketball standout Chris Tiu in Pinoy Records.

For December 15, Eat Bulaga! rolled with a 22 percent rating while Pinoy Records garnered a 19.8 percent rating. Cinema FPJ notched third place (17.4 percent) followed by Makisig Morales's Super Inggo 1.5 (16.6 percent).

Wowowee was untouched at the No.5 position, thanks mainly to its 16.5 percent rating.

Despite failing to make a strong impression throughout the week, Takeshi's Castle managed to close the week with a very strong performance. Saving its best, Takeshi's Castle zoomed to the top spot yesterday, December 16, with a 13.8 percent clip.

SOP ended up at second place, carrying a 12.8 percent followed by the dangerous Kay Susan Tayo (11.7 percent).

Showbiz Central once again pulled the rug out of rival, The Buzz. For yesterday, GMA-7's showbiz talk show tallied 10.3 percent, good for fifth spot while ABS-CBN's showbiz talk show gathered a grade of 9.4 percent.

WWE Armageddon 2007 - SmackDown! Main Event: Edge wins! %@$^!

Edge celebrates w/ SmackDown! GM and The Major Brothers

PITTSBURGH – Edge said during Armageddon that Vickie Guerrero’s love has given him the “strength of three men.” That statement rang true during the Triple Threat Match, as the Ultimate Opportunist had the help of a pair of Rated-R replicas en route to winning the World Heavyweight Championship.

As the Rated-R Superstar revealed in a WWE Mobile on AT&T exclusive video, it turns out that the doppelganger duo was none other than Brett & Brian Major. But just why would the brothers from Long Island all of a sudden agree to help Edge in the culmination of his master plan? Perhaps it has something to do with what he said to them during the mobile exclusive:

“You listen to me … strap a rocket to your backs because you’re going straight to the top. Tag team gold will be yours!”

Just this past summer, Brett & Brian Major made their debut in ECW and were a popular pair that was just glad to be living out their lifelong dream. Why would they choose now to associate with SmackDown’s new top dog? Is there something linking them to the Rated-R Superstar?

Perhaps the young duo has aligned themselves with Edge to learn from one of the greatest tag team champions of all time – The Rated-R Superstar is, after all, an 11-time tag team titleholder. Or maybe they want to skip the learning process and have the WWE Tag Team Championship handed to them.

After all, Edge’s girlfriend, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero, does have the power to make such a bold move. Was this a case of “you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours?” It sure sounded that was from Edge’s post-match comments.

There’s an old proverb that goes like this: Power corrupts; absolute power corrupts absolutely. Now that Edge is the World Heavyweight Champion once again, it seems as if he and Vickie have absolute power. Has that absolutely corrupted Brett & Brian Major? And if that’s the case … who else might the Rated-R Superstar have corrupted?

The finale of "Survivor: China," while not as big as "Survivors" past, was strong enough to help CBS to an overall ratings win Sunday.

CBS averaged an 8.2 rating/13 share for the night. NBC finished second in households at 7.3/11, followed closely by FOX at 6.8/10 (the two networks were in a virtual tie among total viewers). ABC, 5.3/8, was fourth, and The CW continued its struggles on Sunday with a miniscule 0.8/1.

Thanks in part to live sports, FOX led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.9 rating. CBS came in second with a 4.3. NBC's 4.0 was good for third, followed by ABC, 2.7, and The CW, 0.5.

Late NFL games and "The OT" averaged 10.2/16 to put FOX on top at 7 p.m. CBS' "60 Minutes" earned an 8.7/14 for second. "America's Funniest Home Videos," 5.2/8, put ABC in third, ahead of "Football Night in America" on NBC. The CW went with "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" rerun.

The "Survivor: China" finale, 8.2/12, kept CBS on top at 8 p.m. "Sunday Night Football" scored a 7.9/12 to move NBC ahead of ABC and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 7.2/11. FOX dipped to fourth with "The Simpsons," 6.1/9, and "King of the Hill," 4.7/7. The CW aired an "America's Next Top Model" rerun.

At 9 p.m., "Sunday Night Football" (9.2/14) led in households for NBC, but the "Survivor" finale, 8.8/13, brought more total viewers to CBS. A "Desperate Housewives" rerun finished third in households for ABC, although FOX, which averaged 4.8/7 with "Family Guy" and "American Dad," had more viewers. A repeat of the "Crowned" premiere pulled in a 0.8/1 for The CW.

NBC's NFL game posted an 8.4/14 at 10 p.m. to win the hour over the "Survivor" reunion show, which came in at 7.3/12. A "Brothers & Sisters" repeat on ABC drew a 3.8/6.

On Saturday, FOX won the night as "Cops" and "America's Most Wanted" averaged 3.9/7. CBS took second with a 3.6/6, followed by ABC, 3.2/6, and NBC, 2.7/5.

WWE Armageddon 2007 Preview: Triple Threat Match: Batista vs. Edge vs. The Undertaker (SmackDown! main event)

The Armageddon clock has almost reached zero. Doomsday is upon us, and the powder keg that is the World Heavyweight Championship scene is about to explode like never before. Three men, multiple grudges … one title. But who – if anyone – has the advantage heading into Sunday night’s championship showdown?

Based on sheer physical evidence, it may be the “Ultimate Opportunist” himself, Edge. Ever since Survivor Series, he has been the main protagonist of this whole situation, thanks to his attack on Undertaker inside Hell in a Cell. Yet, in that same span of time, the Rated-R Superstar is the only one who seems to escape every sticky situation with his hands clean.

The Friday after Survivor Series, Edge was granted a World Heavyweight Title Match by his girlfriend, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero. He didn’t beat Batista the following Friday night thanks to Undertaker’s interjection, but when all was said and done, he ducked out of harm’s way while The Phenom – frustrated that he couldn’t get to Edge – delivered a thunderous chokeslam to the World Heavyweight Champion.

Then, two weeks ago, when Edge took on Undertaker’s brother, Kane, all hell broke loose once again. Batista got involved, as did The Phenom – and once again, the Ultimate Opportunist watched as carnage unfolded between the two. This time, it was Batista rocking Undertaker with a spear as the Rated-R Superstar slithered out of Dodge.

As if that psychological warfare wasn’t enough, the physical ramifications of this past Friday night may have dug The Animal and The Phenom into a deeper hole. Vickie Guerrero put all three Triple Threat participants in action on SmackDown; however, following the Rated-R Superstar’s convincing win over Funaki, Batista and Undertaker had much tougher competition – made all the worse by Edge’s involvement in both Superstars’ affairs.

After barely surviving a grueling Last Man Standing Match against Kane, the World Heavyweight Champion found himself on the receiving end of a steel chair assault from Edge. As for Undertaker, after somehow getting by Mark Henry & Big Daddy V in a Handicap Match, he was the victim of a half-ton ambush by Matt Striker’s massive tandem, orchestrated and cheered on by – whom else? – Edge.

Retribution is the key word heading into Armageddon, as all three men have a score to settle with both of their opponents. But the will to win and the thirst for revenge can only carry anyone, even a WWE Superstar, so far without physically being able to back it up – and the fact remains that Batista and Undertaker were left decimated on Friday night, while once again Edge was left unscathed, grinning from ear to ear like a demented Cheshire Cat.

When you combine Edge’s recent actions – which have created more tension than ever between Batista and Undertaker – with the fact that he has Vickie Guerrero behind him, the odds are seemingly on the Rated-R Superstar’s side. Has the Ultimate Opportunist manipulated enough variables to make his “ultimate opportunity” at Armageddon a lock?

WWE: SmackDown! Roundup (12/14/07)

BOSTON – The city of Boston’s “Beantown” moniker accurately describes what happened to Rey Mysterio on Friday Night SmackDown.

With his Armageddon opponent, United States Champion MVP, looking on as a guest commentator, Mysterio took on Kenny Dykstra. SmackDown’s self-proclaimed “future Hall of Famer” put up a valiant fight against Mysterio, but the Master of the 619 was able to Drop the Dime on Dykstra for the victory.

After the bout, MVP entered the ring, congratulating Rey on his impressive win. While he had called Mysterio “half a man” on commentary only minutes earlier, the Ballin’ Superstar told Rey that he is an “amazing” competitor and requested a handshake; Mysterio was understandably leery, but the champion brushed it off, as if he understood.

Moments later, however, Mysterio understood just how heavy the U.S. Championship truly is. Mid-sentence, MVP reacted to Dykstra staggering to his feet behind Rey, and when the Master of the 619 turned to see what spooked MVP, the Ballin’ Superstar took the opportunity to clobber him in the back of the head with the gold. The champion then cockily walked away, smirking as Mysterio lay prone in the ring.

Has MVP gained the psychological advantage heading into his showdown with Mysterio at Armageddon, or will this attack further fuel Rey’s quest to teach SmackDown’s Franchise Playa some respect, and become United States Champion? Read more on Rey vs. MVP at Armageddon…

Punjabi tea party

Boston has a high population of Irish-Americans, but Friday was a bad night in Beantown for pure-bred Irishman, Finlay. As ordered, Assistant General Manager Theodore Long announced a Raw – and Survivor Series – rematch between Hornswoggle and The Great Khali. Once again, however, the match never reached its conclusion.

This time, Finlay made his way out – with shillelagh in hand – to protect his little buddy. His onslaught was effective momentarily, but a quick-thinking Ranjin Singh would be his undoing. Khali’s translator grabbed a hold of Hornswoggle, threatening to hurt the littlest McMahon if Finlay didn’t stop his assault on Khali.

The ornery Irishman quickly took care of that threat – clobbering Singh and tossing him out of the ring – but that gave the Punjabi giant time to recover and crack Finlay with a giant chop to the head. He then nailed Finlay with a Khali Bomb, leaving him decimated for the second straight week.

What will happen when these two finally lock up one-on-one at Armageddon?

More trouble in paradise

Michelle McCool wouldn’t have to come to Kelly Kelly’s aid on SmackDown like she did Tuesday night on ECW; this time, the Divas were side-by-side as they took on Victoria & Layla in tag team action.

Unfortunately, much like last week’s contest between Michelle’s friend, Chuck Palumbo, and Jamie Noble, an accidental distraction cost the beautiful blondes the match. When Kenny Dykstra – who was at ringside with Victoria & Layla – tripped McCool, Palumbo roared out on his motorcycle to chase Dykstra. However, this distracted Michelle momentarily, allowing Victoria to roll her up from behind and score the pinfall.

Moments later, Michelle caught up with an again-furious Palumbo in the locker room; she tried to calm him down, but after lamenting over his recent streak of bad luck, the motorcycle enthusiast punched a hole through the wall before stomping away, still mad.

The revved-up Superstar couldn’t have been any happier after seeing what Noble did for McCool later in the night. As she and Kelly entered their locker room, they happened upon quite an array of roses and gifts left by Noble in preparation for next week’s date. Michelle actually seemed flattered by Noble’s advances; what will happen when they finally have their date?

Last Hoo-rah?

Jesse & Festus finally got the upper hand on WWE Tag Team Champions The Miz & John Morrison this week, as Festus defeated Miz in singles action. Jesse & Festus had lost two straight tag team matches to the Extreme champions in recent weeks, but it was a different story when the self-proclaimed “chick magnet” had to fly solo.

While Festus had Miz up in a fireman’s carry, Morrison tried to help his partner. Instead, the burly “grizzly bear” (as color commentator JBL called him) used Miz to knock the Shaman of Sexy down to the arena floor before dropping to the mat with a flapjack to pick up the victory.

Triple Threat Theatre

Although wheelchair bound and sporting a neck brace as a result of Undertaker’s attack weeks ago, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero returned to her duties this week. In her first act back, she announced that all three participants in the Triple Threat Match at Armageddon – World Heavyweight Champion Batista, Undertaker and the love of her life, Edge – would see singles action just 48 hours before their big night.

Once again, however, the Ultimate Opportunist seemed to be the only one to escape the night relatively unscathed. While Edge made quick work of Funaki, The Animal and The Phenom had a much tougher time with three of WWE’s biggest Superstars – Batista in a Last Man Standing Match with Kane, Undertaker in a Handicap Match against Mark Henry & Big Daddy V – as well as the pesky Rated-R Superstar.

On PEP: GMA-7 releases statement on AGB-ABS-CBN dispute.

GMA-7 releases official statement on ABS-CBN-AGB Nielsen ratings dispute

A few hours after ABS-CBN publicly announced filing a P63-million civil case against media research group AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for failing to conduct an investigation on the alleged cheating in the data gathering of television ratings, Kapamilya network's rival station, GMA-7 issued a statement, saying:

"GMA Network is concerned about the report that the true ratings of the TV programs as reported by AGB can be manipulated. The accuracy of the ratings of the TV programs is of utmost importance not only to the TV stations but also to the advertisers, ad agencies, and the viewing public.

"For more than four years now, GMA Network has been complaining to AGB about the highly illogical and unexplainable disparity between the cable and non-cable ratings of GMA's programs, which do not obtain in respect to ABS-CBN's programs.

"GMA-7 is keenly interested in getting at the bottom of this if there is any basis at all to the said reports."

HIRED TO BRIBE. In a press conference called by ABS-CBN earlier today, the Kapamilya network had said that someone paid a visit to their Bacolod office and confessed that he, along with others, are hired to locate and bribe some households tapped by AGB Nielsen as part of the sample for the survey and data gathering.

Upon discovering that a household is part of the surveyed group, the hired people would offer a P500 bribe or grocery items to the sampled members in exchange for deliberately switching channels to favor a particular network.

In a video shown by ABS-CBN during the press conference, the "source" was not strongly pinning AGB Nielsen as the guilty culprit for the anomaly. Interestingly, a particular "network" was pointed at as the perpetrator of the appalling act. The name of the network though was censored in the final edit of the video and omitted in the statement.

"It is ______ [network] that gives us orders. That's ______ network," said the informant, whose identity was hidden in silhouette.

The informant added, "Of course, we are aware and they [the "network"] are aware that they are losing in Bacolod. That ABS is what most people tune into. That's why they want to get a handle on the meters so that they can watch, wtachamacallit, they can have a share in the ratings and advertising."

ABS-CBN officers insisted that they're focusing their sights on AGB Nielsen after the media research body failed to heed their request for an investigation to probe and verify the confession made by their informant.

"Thus, today [December 14], we have filed a case against AGB Nielsen Media Research Philippines for damages and injunction, with an application for a temporary restraining order," said ABS-CBN Head of Research Vivian Tin.
