A tight three-way race for Tuesday's ratings title ended with FOX narrowly beating ABC and CBS, thanks mostly to another strong performance from "House."
ABC led in households with a 7.9 rating/13 share, while CBS and FOX tied at 7.7/12. In total viewers, however, FOX's 12.58 million beat CBS' 12.28 million and ABC's 11.89 million. NBC, 5.6/9, came in fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.8/3.
FOX also led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 5.0 rating. ABC took second with a 3.6, edging NBC's 3.5. CBS averaged 3.1 and The CW 1.3.
"NCIS," 10.2/16, ruled the 8 p.m. hour for CBS. ABC's new comedies "Cavemen," 6.1/10, and "Carpoolers," 5.9/9, got off to decent starts ("Carpoolers" had a few more viewers than its lead-in). "Bones" earned a 5.0/8 for FOX, beating "The Singing Bee" and "The Biggest Loser" on NBC. "Beauty and the Geek" averaged 1.8/3 for The CW.
"House" delivered a 10.3/15 for FOX at 9 p.m., winning the hour handily in viewers and adults 18-49 even though ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" results (10.4/16) had a slight edge in households. "The Unit" scored a 7.0/10 for CBS. "The Biggest Loser" improved a little to 4.6/7, while The CW held steady with "Reaper."
"Law & Order: SVU" posted a 7.7/13 to win the 10 p.m. hour for NBC. "Boston Legal," 7.4/12, finished second for ABC, while CBS' "Cane," 6.0/10, took a hit from its premiere last week.
