'Big Give' premiere draws strong ratings

The Oprah Nation flocked to ABC Sunday, giving the network a ratings victory for the night.
Led by the premiere of "Oprah's Big Give," ABC averaged a 7.3 rating/12 share in primetime. FOX came in second with a 5.9/9 (though that may change some as the network had live sports early in the evening). CBS, 5.3/9, edged NBC, 5.2/8, for third, and The CW was, as usual way off the pace at 0.9/1.
ABC and FOX tied for the lead among adults 18-49, each drawing a 4.3 rating in the advertisers' favorite demographic. CBS came in third with a 2.1, just ahead of NBC's 2.0. The CW managed only a 0.5.
Oprah Winfrey, host of "Oprah's Big Give" on ABC
CBS' "60 Minutes," 8.0/13, led the 7 p.m. hour in households, but FOX's coverage of the NASCAR UAW-Dodge 400, 7.0/12, had a few more total viewers. "America's Funniest Home Videos" put ABC in third with a 4.7/8, topping the 3.9/7 for "Dateline NBC." The CW aired an "America's Next Top Model" repeat.
"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8.4/13) moved ABC into the lead at 8 p.m. The conclusion of the NASCAR race and " The Simpsons" averaged 6.1/9 for FOX. "Dateline" improved to 5.9/9 on NBC. CBS dropped to fourth with "Big Brother: 'Til Death Do You Part." The CW's "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Aliens in America" struggled in their new home, averaging only a 0.9/1.
At 9 p.m., the debut of "Oprah's Big Give," 9.4/14, drew the night's biggest audience for ABC. "Deal or No Deal," 5.5/8, finished second for NBC. A "Cold Case" rerun, 4.8/7, was third in households for CBS, but "King of the Hill," 4.7/7, and "Family Guy," 4.5/7, drew more viewers for FOX. Reruns of "Girlfriends" and "The Game" aired on The CW.
ABC stayed on top at 10 p.m. with the premiere of "Here Come the Newlyweds," 6.6/11. A "Law & Order: SVU" rerun scored a 5.5/9 for NBC, beating the 4.5/8 for "Dexter" on CBS.
