A night of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs on " American Idol" powered FOX to a ratings victory Tuesday.
FOX earned a 10.4 rating/16 share for the night, easily beating ABC, 7.0/11, for the top spot. CBS finished third at 5.6/9. NBC's 4.4/7 was good enough for fourth, and The CW brought up the rear with a 1.3/2.
In the adults 18-49 demographic FOX's 6.9 rating more than doubled the tally for second-place ABC (2.7). NBC took third with a 2.3, followed by CBS, 2.1, and The CW, 0.9.
"American Idol" delivered a 13.9/22 for FOX at 8 p.m., improving slightly on last week's show. "NCIS" put CBS in second with a 9.1/14. There was a big drop from there to third-place ABC, where an hour of "According to Jim" drew a 2.8/4. "Most Outrageous Moments" and a "Saturday Night Live" clip show averaged 2.6/4 for NBC. The CW trailed with "Beauty and the Geek."
ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with the "Dancing with the Stars" results show, 11.4/17. FOX, however, remained in front among adults 18-49 with "Hell's Kitchen," 6.9/10. CBS dropped one spot to third with "Big Brother: 'Til Death Do You Part," 4.4/7. NBC's "SNL" special stayed in fourth, while "Reaper" posted a 1.6/2 for The CW.
At 10 p.m., NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" led the way with an 8.0/13. "Boston Legal" scored a 6.9/11 for ABC, and a "Shark" rerun on CBS came in at 3.3/5.
