On top of his Game

CLEVELAND – Despite heavy odds against him in the first-ever WWE Championship Scramble Match, WWE Champion Triple H retained his crown by defeating United States Champion Shelton Benjamin, Jeff Hardy, Montel Vontavious Porter and The Brian Kendrick.

With just seconds to go, The Game delivered a Pedigree to MVP to pick up the win and crush the hopes of all of his challengers.

But, the unique Scramble Match format offered a glimmer of hope for The Game’s opposition. Hardy was the first to become the interim WWE Champion when he pinned The Brian Kendrick. Next, Kendrick turned the tables by pinning Hardy to claim the title.

Then, it was The Game who claimed the title by delivering a Pedigree to Kendrick. The title changed hands multiple times as Hardy (over MVP), Triple H (over Kendrick) and Hardy (over Kendrick) took turns as WWE Champion.

In the end, though, it was The King of Kings who reigned supreme.

Coming into the match, The Cerebral Assassin knew the odds he was up against.

“It possibly could be the most difficult challenge I’ve ever faced,” he said in St. Louis, just two nights earlier on SmackDown. Also on SmackDown, Triple H acknowledged there was an 80 percent chance that he could lose the championship at Unforgiven.

Despite the odds in the five-man battle, the champion proved his mettle and why he is dubbed “The King of Kings.” If four Superstars can’t stop him, who can?
