Dawn Ostroff Out? Tony DiSanto In? --- as The CW President

By Nikki Finke

Who's Gonna Be The Boss Of 'Gossip Girl'?

I'm told that tonight MTV's Tony DiSanto is still very busy denying to Hollywood that he is replacing Dawn Ostroff as head of The CW. I first heard from sources three weeks ago that Dawn was out, and Tony was in, following rounds of not-so-secret meetings with possible candidates for the network run jointly by Warner Bros and CBS. Then silence. The "explanation" making the rounds was that DiSanto, who's been a very big deal at MTV for more than a decade, was still negotiating his CW deal. Well, DiSanto this week had a puff piece written about him where he said he isn't leaving MTV. But today, this CW rumor went from a whisper to the talk of the town. So why? "Someone is really pushing this story hard," says a CBS insider. "But I believe the person who told me it's not happening." And the bigtime TV power-players also think it's smoke, not fire. Perhaps it's karma that DiSanto (EVP of series, development and animation for MTV and head of programming for MTV2), has to work overtime to dispel the chatter. After all, this is the guy responsible for some of the most-talked-about swill on MTV, like Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, Run's House, The Hills, 8th and Ocean, The Andy Milonakis Show, and TRL with Carson Daly (thus foisting that no-talent on all of us...). Whereas Ostroff got her job by the skin of her teeth after programming as badly as she could at the old UPN and brown-nosing Les Moonves who was making a power-play move on Barry Meyer. Nevertheless Hollywood folk fail upwards: I'm told Dawn could end up running Oprah's new cable network.

Deadman on The Cutting Edge
By: Michael Burdick
Written: May 30, 2008

Colorado Springs, Colo. – As the world waits to see what
Mr. McMahon’s million-dollar giveaway will bring, Undertaker has a different type of prize on his mind: The World Heavyweight Championship. On SmackDown, just two days before their TLC Match at One Night Stand, Edge hosted The Cutting Edge with his special guest: The Phenom. (WATCH)

The Rated-R Superstar and The Undertaker have had a wild ride ever since Edge came to SmackDown last year, cashing in his Money in the Bank contract to steal the World Heavyweight Championship away from The Deadman.

The events leading up to their hellish confrontation on Sunday have proved to be one powder keg after another. Edge and his fiancée, General Manager
Vickie Guerrero, continue to conjure up ways to stop Undertaker and once again make the Ultimate Opportunist the World Heavyweight Champion. First, the GM stripped The Phenom of his title, deeming The Deadman’s devastating submission maneuver an illegal choke hold. Then, when it appeared Undertaker had reclaimed the gold at Judgment Day via count-out, Guerrero once again turned the tables, determining that the title remain vacant.

Before introducing his special guest, the Rated-R Superstar did what he does best — gave his audience a show they would never forget. He kicked things off by showing highlights of his success in TLC Matches; footage that showed just how much of an art form he has made out of that type of contest.

When Undertaker finally made his way to the ring, complete with a ladder on display, Edge proceeded to make him feel more comfortable. He called on “The Family,” who quickly brought a casket down to ringside.
Chavo Guerrero, Bam Neely, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder then attacked The Deadman, not stopping until he was inside the closed coffin.

When Edge decided to ascend the ladder to taunt The Phenom, giving his own prediction of what would happen at One Night Stand, the lights went out on him, literally. When they came back on, Undertaker was suddenly standing on the ladder with the Rated-R Superstar. The Deadman then knocked Edge to the floor, using the ladder to clean house. Undertaker then took Edge in his clutches, when Ryder sacrificed himself, receiving a Last Ride through a table. As the show came to a close, it was The Undertaker who held the vacant title above his head.

At One Night Stand on Sunday, there is more than just the World Heavyweight Championship hanging in the balance. Could The Phenom go home with the gold, or just go home for good?

The Animal is Running Wild
By: Michael Burdick
May 30, 2008

Colorado Springs, Colo. – With just two days until his Stretcher Match against
Shawn Michaels at One Night Stand, Batista continued to show his ferocious determination, smashing through Curt Hawkins & Zack Ryder on this week’s SmackDown, with a little help from Big Show. (WATCH)

Earlier in the evening, as Batista was sending Michaels a message of the hurt he will cause The Showstopper on Sunday, General Manager
Vickie Guerrero took strong exception to what she felt was rude behavior on the part of The Animal. She set a tag team match pitting Hawkins & Ryder against Batista and any Superstar who wanted to volunteer to be his partner.

Big Show answered the call, and he and Batista laid waste to their opponents in a mismatch from the beginning, including a startling moment when The World’s Largest Athlete heaved Ryder from the outside floor into the ring by his
hair, one-handedly. Although an explosive Batista Bomb ended this match, will it be Shawn Michaels who catches The Animal’s fallout on Sunday?

Can’t break through
Since defeating
MVP for the United States Championship at Backlash, Matt Hardy continues to establish himself as a fighting champion, defeating Elijah Burke in a hard fought, non-title match. Burke, who shows great potential in his matches, seems to be getting more and more frustrated at his inability to break through to the next level. In the end, he seemed lost and confused, looking up at the heavens for answers. (Watch the Alka-Seltzer® Speedy Recap)

Past the boiling point
After last week’s humiliating loss to
Finlay, thanks in part to the green mist of Hornswoggle, Chuck Palumbo had his mind set on revenge. When Hornswoggle got involved once again, Palumbo snapped, assaulting Finlay with his motorcycle chain, giving the Irishman the win by disqualification at a heavy price.

Miz out; Morrison down; momentum to Punk
Mr. Money in the Bank
CM Punk and WWE Tag Team Champion John Morrison fought for momentum leading into the Singapore Cane Match at One Night Stand, where the winner will go on to face ECW Champion Kane. After The Miz was banned from ringside, Punk picked up the hard-fought win. One has to wonder if Mr. Money in the Bank will cash in on the most Extreme night of the year, or if he will continue to bide his time until WrestleMania XXV.

He’s better than you
SmackDown commentator Mick Foley alluded to Montel Vontavious Porter being a bit unsure of himself since losing the United States Championship. However, after a huge loss to Batista last week, MVP got back on track, picking up the win over Jamie Noble. Noble had tried to inspire MVP earlier in the night, but the Ballin’ Superstar was hearing none of it, choosing instead to showcase why he believes he is “half-man, half-amazing.” With the Draft on the horizon, will MVP soon become the highest-paid athlete on another brand?
From Moscow with animationVladimir Kozlov continues to dominate the SmackDown roster, decimating
Shannon Moore. The Monster from Moscow remains undefeated on SmackDown, and is becoming a huge force on Friday nights.

Cherry gets payback
After delivering a nasty kick to fellow SmackDown Diva Cherry last week, the sultry
Maryse locked horns with Michelle McCool. When Cherry showed up to distract Deuce & Domino, McCool turned the tables on Maryse, picking up an impressive win by submission.
It’s not gonna be that easyOn what could be his final SmackDown,
Undertaker was a guest on The Cutting Edge, standing face-to-face with his TLC Match opponent, Edge.

The Rated-R Superstar looked to gain the upper hand in their confrontation on Sunday and, with “The Family” by his side, attempted to close the casket on The Phenom’s impressive career.

As he celebrated, the arena went dark and The Phenom appeared on top of the ladder, sending a message of his own just 48 hours before the
World Heavyweight Championship hangs above the ring at One Night Stand. (WATCH) Read the Full Story...

WWE Friday Night SmackDown! - Official Preview (May 30, 2008)

Preview:
Get the gold or go home!
May 30, 2008

The unbridled excitement on the road to One Night Stand is building to a fever pitch and it all could explode this week on SmackDown.

Last Week, General Manager Vickie Guerrero released yet another firestorm when she announced that at the Extreme pay-per-view, the vacant World Heavyweight Championship would finally be decided in a TLC Match between Undertaker and Edge. However, Guerrero quickly made it personal when she added the startling stipulation that if The Phenom loses, he must leave WWE forever. After Undertaker won a fierce match against Chavo Guerrero later that night - with Edge, Vickie, Curt Hawkins, Zack Ryder, and Bam Neely in tow - how will “the family” react on the doorstep of the One Night Stand? With the World Heavyweight Championship hanging in the balance, rest assured that the Ultimate Opportunist and the “love of his life” will have something up their sleeve.

After Shawn Michaels’ controversial win at their last meeting at Backlash, the stage has been set for a brutal Stretcher Match between The Showstopper and Batista at One Night Stand. And, if last week’s VIP Lounge and subsequent match against Montel Vontavious Porter are any indication, HBK is going to be facing a truly irate Animal. After punishing the former United States Champion, MVP, in last week’s grueling match, who will Batista unleash his fury on two days before his pay-per-view moment-of-destiny with HBK? Will Shawn Michaels show up to personally send his own statement? Whatever happens, it is going to be one explosive Friday night.

Deuce & Domino looked to be getting back on track after winning the six-man tag along with their beautiful partner Maryse. The stunning Diva’s participation did not go unnoticed following their separation from Cherry just weeks ago. If the former tag champions can keep their momentum going, they could become a major threat to The Miz & John Morrison’s WWE Tag Team Titles.

Don’t miss all the action on Friday Night SmackDown 8/7 CT only on The CW Network.

Billy Crawford Talks About Transfer to ABS-CBN

FIRST READ ON PEP: Billy Crawford explains his side regarding transfer to ABS-CBN

Jocelyn Dimaculangan

Friday, May 30, 2008
05:31 PM

After a grueling 15-hour flight, Billy Crawford arrived earlier today, May 30, at the 9501 restaurant in ABS-CBN compound straight from the airport. The 25-year-old singer-dancer looked calm and refreshed despite the fact that he was a bundle of nerves that moment.

"Magandang hapon po sa inyong lahat. It's nice to see you again. I don't think I've been this nervous in my entire life. Why am I nervous? Well, it didn't start off to a great start ‘coz I lost my passport before I got on the plane. That was kind of crazy. I'm nervous ‘coz I'm back in the Philippines."

Many were shocked to know that Billy, who was last seen on GMA-7 for the dance reality show Move, had indeed transferred to ABS-CBN to be one of the hosts of Pinoy Dream Academy and the noontime show ASAP ‘08. This is the first time that Billy has spoken about this topic.

"What happened was I was in California recording my album and Endemol got in touch with my management for a three month-[contract]. Everyday, I'll finish at 7 o'clock in the morning and they asked me kung puwede akong bumalik sa Pilipinas. My management made the deal with them and I'm just really following them," explains Billy.

Endemol is the Netherlands-based company that is the franchise owner of the Dream Academy series that has a local version called the Pinoy Dream Academy. The management that Billy is referring to is the YPMP Productions, which handles the careers of most R&B and hip-hop artists in the United States.

Billy is currently working on his album, which will probably be released by December this year or early next year.

"I think the main thing is for me...it's always a pleasure to come here no matter where I go. I know feelings will be hurt here. I don't want to dwell on that, but I'm still the same Billy Joe from before."

What makes Billy suited to host the second season of PDA is the fact that he hosted the French edition of this reality singing competition.

"I did Star Academy in France and they're on their ninth season. It's exactly the same concept. They've had Elton John, Beyoncé, and Stevie Wonder there. I was a part of that in France."

PINOY STYLE. Since his management company YPMP is based in the United States, Billy says that his managers are having a difficult time coping with Pinoy showbiz. "Right now, all my projects and my guestings have to be approved from America. Bago lang ako sa kanila.

"Alam n'yo po, sa States kasi they don't know kung paano tayo nagso-showbiz dito sa Pilipinas. That's why they're not with me, they have no idea that there is actually different TV stations. It's hard for them to understand. So when GMA-7 or ABS-CBN talks to them, they handle them as clients. Ako, alam ko na and it's hard for me to deal with it but I'm here."

He also clarifies that Arnold Vegafria is his booking agent while he is here in the country.

The press was curious to learn if Billy had the option of turning down the offer of Endemol. Does he have a say on the projects that he will do?

"I have options, I have ideas. Puwede naman akong magsalita. Pero, of course, business is business, personal is personal," he says.

ON UTANG NA LOOB. When it comes to talk about loyalty and the Filipino trait of utang na loob, Billy becomes flustered and says, "Utang na loob, siyempre, is very important pero yun ang pinaka-importante. Pagdating sa utang na loob, maraming questions na... It's a very hard question. It's like ‘I give you my hand, you'll give me mine.' Utang na loob is very deep. I've given my everything at respeto rin ay importante."

With regards to loyalty, Billy shared, "I'm loyal to my job... I'm loyal to my passion... I'm loyal to people who love me no matter what."

GMA-7 SHOW. There have been rumors saying that Billy was offered another show by the Kapuso network but he turned it down. Billy explains that the timing was the reason for not accepting the project.

"Nung unang alis ko, after Move and the concert [at the Araneta Coliseum], they wanted me to do another TV show but I couldn't do it. I said it was a great idea, but I couldn't do it at the time na kailangan nila ako.

"This time, that was when I was signing with my production company. Hindi ko nagawa [yung show sa GMA-7], then Endemol got in touch with my management and I'm free for three months. Yes, it's true, there was a TV show for me [in GMA-7]."

Right after the press conference, Billy signed a contract signifying that he is now officially a Kapamilya Star, at least for the next three months. The singer signed up with ABS-CBN for only three months since he needs to return to France by September for another commitment.

Present during the contract signing were Billy, his booking agent Arnold Vegafria, Head for TV Production Cory Vidanes, business unit head Lauren Dyogi, and Vice President for entertainment Deo Endrinal.

Direk Lauren explained that Billy will be seen every weekday for the afternoon update of Pinoy Dream Academy called Uberture. On Saturdays, he will host the performance night with Toni Gonzaga and on Sundays, he will be seen performing on the variety show ASAP ‘08. Meanwhile, Nikki Gil will be seen for the updates and every Sunday.

Direk Lauren also clarified that Billy did not replace Ryan Agoncillo since the latter is planning to concentrate on his acting career rather than his hosting stints.

Pinoy Dream Academy Season 2 will introduce the 32 hopefuls on June 9 and the first episode will be aired on ABS-CBN by June 14.

ABS-CBN's new primetime series My Girl failed to sustain its impressive debut last Monday, May 26. After posting a rating of 28 percent on its opening night, the Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson starrer's rating dropped to 23.9 the following night, May 27, to land at No. 6 behind another Kapamilya show, The Singing Bee, which generated a rating of 25 percent.

The other programs that consistently made it in the Top 10 are Lobo, Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus, The Legend, and TV Patrol World. GMA-7's game show Gobingo managed to grab the 1oth place last Tuesday when TV Patrol World and PBB Teen Edition Plus tied at No. 9.

In the daytime race, Kaputol ng Isang Awit took the No. 1 spot Tuesday and Thursday, while Daisy Siete grabbed the lead Wednesday.

'Lost' Finale Finds Win for ABC Thursday
Numbers aren't great, but they carry the night

Fast National ratings for Thursday, May 29, 2008

The season finale of "Lost" powered ABC to a ratings win Thursday, though its numbers were off some from last year's season-ender.

ABC averaged a 6.4 rating/11 share for the night, beating FOX, 5.9/10, for the top spot. CBS took third with a 4.9/8. NBC, 2.8/5, came in fourth, and The CW brought up the rear with a 1.1/2.

The adults 18-49 race played out the same way, with ABC's 4.0 rating in the lead. FOX finished second in the demographic with a 3.6. CBS, 1.9, was third, followed by NBC, 1.7, and The CW, 0.6.

FOX led the 8 p.m. hour with "So You Think You Can Dance," 5.8/10. A repeat of the most recent "Lost" drew a 4.5/8 for ABC. "The Big Bang Theory" and "How I Met Your Mother" averaged 3.2/6 for CBS. An "Office" rerun and "Last Comic Standing" put NBC in fourth, ahead of a "Smallville" repeat, 1.2/2, on The CW.

"Lost," 7.1/12, moved ABC to the front at 9 p.m. "So You Think You Can Dance" improved slightly to 6.0/10, keeping FOX in front of CBS and "CSI," 5.9/10. "Last Comic Standing" drew a 3.0/5 for NBC. A "Supernatural" rerun on The CW fell off a little from its lead-in.

At 10 p.m., "Lost" rose to 7.6/13, but it failed to match its ratings from last year. This year's finale averaged about 12.2 million viewers, while last years, which aired a week earlier but was partially opposite the "American Idol" finale, drew 13.8 million. A "Without a Trace" repeat scored a 5.7/10 for CBS, while the conclusion of "Last Comic Standing" and another "Office" rerun averaged 2.9/5 for NBC.

FOX Dances to Wednesday's Top Spot
'So You Think' edges CBS lineup for victory

Fast National ratings for Wednesday, May 28, 2008

FOX and CBS waged a close battle for ratings supremacy Wednesday, with FOX's dancers edging the Eye's crime-fighters to gain a victory.

CBS had a small edge in households for the night, averaging a 6.0 rating/10 share. FOX (5.8/10), though, brought in more total viewers -- 9.27 million to 9.02 million for CBS. ABC finished third at 4.0/7. NBC's 2.8/5 was good for fourth, and The CW trailed at 1.6/3.

FOX scored a sizable win among adults 18-49 with a 3.6 rating. ABC took second in the key ad demographic with a 2.1, narrowly beating CBS' 2.0 and NBC's 1.9. The CW drew a 0.9.

"So You Think You Can Dance" put FOX on top at 8 p.m. with a 5.3/9. CBS was right behind with a prime-time "Price Is Right," 5.2/9. "Wife Swap" posted a 4.0/7 for ABC. Game 3 of the NHL's Stanley Cup Finals earned a 2.5/4 for NBC, beating out a repeat of "Farmer Wants a Wife" on The CW.

ABC held onto third with "Supernanny," 4.4/7, and NBC's hockey game stayed in fourth. A new "Farmer Wants a Wife" delivered a 1.8/3 for The CW.

CBS took sole possession of first place at 10 p.m. with "CSI: NY," 6.3/11. "Men in Trees" scored a 3.7/6 for ABC, and the Stanley Cup game improved to 3.1/5 on NBC.

Ellen DeGeneres Wants Arnel Pineda on Her Show

Two Pinoy singing talents continue to earn international recognition

Nerisa Almo

Wednesday, May 28, 2008
05:05 PM

First it was Charice Pempengco, now Ellen DeGeneres wants Filipino rocker Arnel Pineda to appear on her show The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

In a recent episode, Ellen stated the reason she wanted Arnel in her show. "This is the guy that there is no way you could criticize," said the popular host. "I don't know if you saw this, but there is a guy that is from the Philippines and he sings journey songs. He put this on YouTube, incredible! This guy, this is not lip-synching, he's actually singing."

Arnel Pineda was a former vocalist of the local band called Zoo, which had regular gigs in different bars in Metro Manila. They often performed cover songs by Journey, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Air Supply, Survivor, and other popular acts from '70s, '80s, and '90s. (Click here to read related article).

His fame slowly started when a longtime fan and friend uploaded videos of his performances in YouTube. Ellen further narrated, "He is incredible and the guitarist from Journey, Neal Schon, saw this video and he sent an e-mail to Arnel. Arnel e-mailed back and now Arnel is in the studio recording the Journey album. He's gonna be the lead singer of Journey. How cool is that? Let that be a lesson to you, don't stop believing."

Later on, Ellen expressed how she wanted Arnel and the rest of the Journey band be on her show for an interview. "I think I want him on the show. We're talking to him if he may be on the show, the whole band."

Journey is a '70s American rock band that popularized the songs, "Open Arms," "Don't Stop Believing," "Separate Ways," and "Wheel in the Sky."

CHARICE HONORS FOSTER. Meanwhile, Oprah often said in her show that it was David Foster who introduced her to Charice Pempengco.

Last Saturday, Charice was one of the singers who performed in the concert tribute prepared for the said famous songwriter.

Mr. Pure Energy Takes a Long Recess!

Gary Valenciano will take a long break after silver-anniversary concert
Archie de Calma
Wednesday, May 28, 2008
03:26 PM

GRAND SALVO.

"For the next five years, I will be going back to school," sabi ni Gary sa PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) sa isang panayam. "I will be taking up Music Production and Audio Engineering for Films, TV, and Music. I will be taking that up in a school in Fullsile, Orlando, Florida, U.S.A., just eight minutes from our house there. For two straight years, I will be away, and will be back here. Then, go back again."

Aware si Gary na ang absence niya ay pupuwedeng makaapekto sa career niya rito.

"Pero pinag-isipan ko nang mabuti 'yan," sabi niya. "I will be doing this to help more people. It's not just for myself. I want to learn more to help this industry. I will be doing this for the industry, and for myself, too. In the sense that I don't want to regret giving up the opportunity while I'm still young enough to spend more years in school. I don't want to decide on this when I'm 65," nangingiting sabi ni Gary.

Marami pa rin kasing ibang bagay na gustong gawin si Gary. Nakikita nga niya ang sarili na sa mga susunod na taon, he will be away from the limelight as a performer.

"Magko-concert pa rin ako, pero hindi na madalas," deklara niya. "I'm glad that I still have offers for concert tours abroad. But in the coming years, I guess I have to work with other people in the industry, behind the lights and cameras."

GARY'S CHILDREN. Ito rin daw ang pangarap ng anak niyang si Gabriel, ang magkaroon ng proper education sa larangan ng musika at performing arts.

"He's more interested in production. But my other son, si Paolo, siguro siya na ang susunod sa akin. Gumagawa na siya ng pangalan as a singer. Ang nakikita ko kay Paolo, he may end up like his mom who's interested in managing talents," lahad ni Gary.

Very proud dad si Gary sa His Love series niya dahil pati ang bunso nilang si Keana ay revelation din as a singer.

BILLY ON ASAP. Kumalat din ang balita na si Billy Crawford ang napipisil na pumalit kay Gary V sa ASAP '08.

"Well, just in case I go away," nangingiting sabi ni Gary. "It's just okay. The management can fill that gap, but my sons will still be in the show, or they may appear there every now and then.

"Wala namang problema. But so far, if they want to put Billy there, I will still be in the show until the plan materializes, that I really have to leave."

NBA Disappears from China

NBA playoffs disappear from TV in China
By STEPHEN WADE, AP Sports Writer
8 hours, 4 minutes ago

BEIJING (AP)—NBA playoff games have mysteriously disappeared from Chinese television.

Entertainment programs on Chinese television were suspended last week during a three-day period of mourning for victims of the deadly Sichuan earthquake, including NBA playoff games.

When the mourning period ended, the NBA playoffs returned as the state-run national broadcaster CCTV showed the Western Conference final between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. However, subsequent games have not been shown.

“We have followed orders and stopped the NBA broadcast,” Jiang Heping, director for CCTV’s sport channel, said in Wednesday editions of the Shanghai-based Oriental Sports Daily. “Since the May 12 earthquake, we’re careful about the way we broadcast the NBA and the content must match the whole atmosphere.”

However, concerns about sports programming following the earthquake did not prevent CCTV’s sports channel from showing women’s soccer and highlights of track, women’s basketball and French Open tennis.

The NBA’s office in China offered only a brief statement from NBA China’s chief executive officer Tim Chen.

“We are working closely with CCTV to ensure that NBA games and content are appropriate for China and to begin broadcasting as soon as possible,” Chen said.

Michael Bass, NBA senior vice president of marketing communication, said Wednesday the NBA has not been given any indication that games were pulled for any political reason.

“Our programming has been pre-empted in consideration of the tenor in China following the Sichuan earthquake,” Bass said.

NBA basketball is popular in China, although interest has dropped off without the top two Chinese players—Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian—in the playoffs. The injured Yao plays for the Houston Rockets and Yi plays for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Tori Spelling Returning on The CW's "90210"

Breaking: Tori Spelling Still Lives in Beverly Hills, '90210'

By Korbi Ghosh (Zap2it.com)

Though Tori Spelling made no secret of her desire to join fellow 9-0 alum Jennie Garth as a recurring character on this Fall's 90210 spin off, the CW has just confirmed that her deal is indeed closed.

The network says Tori will reprise her role as Donna Martin, the now "owner of one of the coolest stores in Beverly Hills, a shopping hot spot that is frequented by the new cast of characters."

Question is: Are she and David Silver still married? Can Brian Austin Green show his face on the CW now that he's a series regular on FOX's Sarah Connor Chronicles? Oh, the complications!

The Pinoy version of the hit Koreanovela My Girl, starring Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, premiered last night, May 26. My Girl posted a rating of 28 percent to take the fifth position in the daytime race, and more importantly topping all ABS-CBN programs.

Although My Girl's debut performance in the ratings game is quite astonishing, GMA-7's formidable quartet—Dyesebel, Joaquin Bordado, Babangon Ako't Dudurgin Kita, and 24 Oras—remained strong in the Top 4 positions. The new Kimerald primetime series, which replaced Claudine Barretto's Maligno, went up against the latter part of Dyesebel (39.8 percent) and most part of Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita (31.3 percent).

ABS-CBN's reality program Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus also benefited from My Girl's strong showing as it posted a high 26.4 percent, which is good for sixth place. Former top Kapamilya show The Singing Bee dropped to seventh place with 25.8 percent.

Completing the Top 10 are TV Patrol World, Lobo, and
The Legend.

In the daytime race, ABS-CBN's new afternoon soap Ligaw Na Bulaklak starring Roxanne Guinoo also had its debut Monday. The replacement show of Prinsesa ng Banyera got 15.6 percent to take the seventh place.

Kaputol ng Isang Awit posted the highest rating of the day with 20.5 percent; followed by Daisy Siete, Eat Bulaga, Magdusa Ka, and
El Cuerpo Deseo.

GMA-7's Mel & Joey was the highest rated primetime show last Sunday, May 25, with 22.8 percent while ABS-CBN's Goin' Bulilit (21.5 percent) and Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus (21.4 percent) took the second and third spots, respectively. Completing the Top 5 are All Star K and the results night of Pinoy Idol.

SOP topped Sunday's daytime race with 15.2 percent despite the absence of main female hosts Regine Velasquez and Jaya. Takeshi's Castle was second with 12.9 percent while ASAP '08 was third with 12.6 perecnt.

In the battle of the showbiz talk shows, Showbiz Central once again beat The Buzz—11.3 percent versus 10.6 percent—considering John Lapus was the only main host present at last Sunday's episode of Showbiz Central, which also featured Rufa Mae Quinto's birthday celebration.

Saturday (May 24) primetime viewing was ruled by Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho with 30.5 percent. Michael V's gag show Bitoy's Funniest Videos came in second with 28.5 percent while Imbestigador was in third place with 27.6 percent.

Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition Plus and Pinoy Idol ranked fourth and fifth, respectively.

Eat Bulaga, meanwhile, topped the daytime race with 22 percent; followed by Wowowee, Takeshi's Castle, Wish Ko Lang, and Cinema FPJ to complete the Top 5.

Finally, Dyesebel once again topped the primetime race last Friday, May 23, with 39.5 percent. The final episode of Maligno posted a rating of 21.1 percent to take the 8th place.

Daisy Siete was the No. 1 daytime show; followed by Magdusa Ka, Eat Bulaga, Kaputol ng Isang Awit, and

MRC Unveils CW Sunday Night Programming

MRC Unveils CW's Prime Sunday Block
May 27, 2008

-By John Consoli

Media Rights Capital will produce a sitcom, a reality show, and two scripted dramas to air on The CW network as part of the Sunday night prime-time block it is partnering with the broadcast network for next season.

The reality show, In Harm’s Way, which will air from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., looks at the lives of people doing dangerous jobs. The sitcom, Surviving Suburbia, which will air from 7:30 to 8 p.m., is a comedic look at an established family in the neighborhood and its new neighbors. The dramas include Valentine Inc., about an agency that “finds lost loves and mends broken hearts,” and Easy Money, about a family that runs a high-interest loan business.

Each show will go straight from script to series with no pilots. MRC will also progam the 5 to 6:30 p.m. time period, and will announce that programming at a later date.

The CW sales team, which will sell advertising for the shows, will begin meeting with prospective advertisers and media agencies this week. Showrunners for all five shows will attend presentations with perspective advertisers to discuss their shows and to get advertiser input that could result in product integrations.

“Our approach is simple, when you put our artist partners and the advertising folks together in a room, they come up with smart and creative solutions to problems, “ said MRC co-CEOs Modi Wiczyk and Asif Satchu, in a joint statement. “We want them integrated and talking from the beginning.”

"Heroes" Returns on NBC This Fall!

'Heroes' Back in a Big Way This Fall
NBC sets premiere dates, moves 'Kath & Kim' to Thursdays

NBC will usher in the 2008-09 season with a big, splashy return for "Heroes," which will end a 9 1/2-month absence from the air in September.

The network is turning over its entire prime-time slate on Monday, Sept. 22 to the show, starting with an hour-long clip show to refresh viewers' memories on what's happened so far and leading into a two-hour season premiere. It leads a fairly traditional rollout for NBC, which will debut most of its shows between then and early October.

NBC has also made a few tweaks to the looking-way-ahead schedules it presented to advertisers and the press in April. The biggest change is that the new comedy "Kath & Kim" will join the network's Thursday comedy block on Oct. 9; it had been scheduled for Tuesday nights following "The Biggest Loser," which will expand to two hours.

That change pushes a series of "Saturday Night Live" prime-time election specials from 9:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursdays in October. The third season of "30 Rock" will hold off until Oct. 30.

Additionally, the unscripted series "America's Toughest Jobs" moves up from summer '09 to the fall, premiering Friday, Sept. 12. It will air at 8 p.m. ET for several weeks, then move to 9 p.m. in October after the premiere of "Crusoe." ("Deal or No Deal" will move off the night when that happens.)

The rollout of the network's three dramas will be staggered a little. The updated "Knight Rider" will debut Wednesday, Sept. 24, while "My Own Worst Enemy" will follow "Heroes" on Monday, Sept. 29. "Crusoe" has its two-hour premiere on Friday, Oct. 17.

NBC's premiere schedule is as follows (all times Eastern, new shows in bold):

Friday, Sept. 12

8 p.m. "America's Toughest Jobs" (moves to 9 p.m. Oct. 24)

Monday, Sept. 22

"Indiana Jones" Findings: Box Office at $126M!

'Indiana Jones' unearths $126M in box office gold
Sunday May 25 3:32 PM ET

Indiana Jones unearthed box office gold at domestic theaters with a performance that puts the film on track to become the second biggest Memorial Day movie opening ever, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The fourth installment of the whip-cracking professor's exploits, "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," grossed an estimated $101 million from Friday to Sunday, plus $25 million from its opening Thursday, distributor Paramount Pictures said. The company expects it to earn another $25 million on Monday.

That would put it behind only "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," which had a Friday-through-Monday total of $139.8 million, in the pantheon of Memorial Day weekend blockbusters.

Including Thursday's receipts, "Indiana Jones" was expected to collect $151 million over five days, slightly behind "Pirates," which took in $153 million with a partial Thursday included.

"'Indiana Jones' did incredibly well for a film that comes 19 years after the previous installment," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of tracking firm Media By Numbers LLC.

The adventure flick received a lackluster reception from critics at the Cannes Film Festival, but audiences thought otherwise.

Box office estimates grew from $25 million on its opening Thursday through $37 million on Saturday, suggesting strong word of mouth, Dergarabedian said.

"This is the definition of a summer movie from two of the architects of the summer movie season George Lucas and Steven Spielberg," he said. "These guys have it down to a science and audiences want to go along for that ride."

The first three Indy movies took in $1.2 billion worldwide.

Disney's action sequel, "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," slipped to second place with $23 million, for a total of $91.1 million over two weeks. The company expected the movie to continue to play well as school lets out.

"Once you start getting the mass number of kids out of school, it turns into some serious money," said Chuck Viane, president of distribution for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Marvel Studios' "Iron Man" clinched another $20.1 million, bringing its domestic total to $252.3 million. A sequel is set for release in 2010.

The 20th Century Fox comedy, "What Happens in Vegas," continued to roll with $9 million in its third week, for a total of $54.2 million.

Fox senior vice president Bert Livingstone said high gas prices were encouraging people to see movies rather than take long trips away from home.

"This is the last great bargain," Livingstone said.

But movie receipts were about 16 percent smaller than last year's Memorial Day weekend, and revenue for the year to date is down nearly 4 percent at $3.3 billion, with attendance off nearly 7 percent.

By this time last year, there were seven movies that grossed over $100 million: "Pirates," "Shrek the Third," "Spider-Man 3," "300," "Wild Hogs," "Blades of Glory" and "Ghost Rider," according to Media By Numbers. This year, there are only three: "Iron Man," "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!" and "Indiana Jones."

"It's no wonder that we're down in terms of revenues and attendance," Dergarabedian said. "You don't get out of a deficit like this overnight."

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Media By Numbers LLC. Final figures will be released Tuesday.

1. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," $101 million.

2. "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," $23 million.

3. "Iron Man," $20.1 million.

4. "What Happens in Vegas," $9 million.

5. "Speed Racer," $4 million.

6. "Made of Honor," $3.4 million.

7. "Baby Mama," $3.3 million.

8. "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," $1.7 million.

9. "Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay," $900,000.

10. "The Visitor," $800,000.

"High School Musical" Star Engaged...

'High School Musical' Star Engaged
Don't worry, Zac Efron fans... It's only KayCee Stroh

Which star of the Disney "High School Musical" franchise is planning a late 2008 wedding?

That would be KayCee Stroh, who accepted a proposal from boyfriend Ben Higginson over the weekend, according to People.

"We shot from 6 p.m. until 6 a.m., and Ben was waiting for me in my trailer," Stroh tells the magazine. "He was waiting for me with a single red rose. Then he took me up to the H Rock, a place at the top of a little mountain that overlooks Salt Lake City, and we watched the sunrise. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him."

KayCee Stroh

The "shooting" Stroh is referring to, of course, is production on "High School Musical 3," a theatrical release now lensing in Utah with original stars Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu and Lucas Grabeel all on board.

Stroh plays Martha Cox, a smart girl with a secret love for hip hop dancing.

The magazine says that the 23-year-old actress met Higginson, a Salt Lake City production company owner, at a concert in 2007. They're planning to officially tie the knot in late 2008.

Changes Will Happen on WWE, Triple H on Marvel's "Thor"

Major Changes to WWE, Triple H Snubbed By Director?

Source: Wrestling Observer

-- In light of declining ratings the past two months, WWE has some major shake-ups in store for viewers over the next few weeks.

-- Thursday night in Monterrey, Mexico, Chris Jericho got busted open and needed stitches after his match with Jeff Hardy.

-- Triple H has some major competition for the lead role in Marvel Comics' upcoming Thor movie. According to some entertainment websites, Brad Pitt is apparently being considered for the lead role. No offer has been made to Pitt yet, but he is high on the list of potential candidates to play the part. Another lead candidate for the role is actor Kevin McKidd of HBO's Rome series. Furthermore, according to the latest issue of Pro Wrestling Illustrated, the deal with Triple H and Thor is that Marvel officials are interested in his services, but scheduled director Matthew Vaughn is greatly opposed to the idea of casting him in the movie. Vaughn has informed the studio about his displeasure with possibly using Triple H in the movie.

Live + Same Day Ratings - ABC Thursday (5/22/08)

QUICK TAKE FOR THURSDAY, MAY 22, 2008 (FAST AFFILIATE LIVE + SAME DAY RATINGS)
Released by ABC

Quick Take for Thursday, May 22, 2008 (Fast Affiliate Live + Same Day Ratings)

ABC Towers Over its Thursday Competition in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, Winning its 5th Straight Thursday in the Key Adult 18-49 Sales Demographic

ABC Draws its Biggest Thursday Audience in Over 1 Year and Garners Its Highest Adult 18-49 Rating Since Season-Premiere Thursday in September

Far and Away the No. 1 TV Show of the Night, "Grey's Anatomy" Finale Stands as TV's Highest Rated Scripted Series Telecast in Nearly 4 Months with Adults 18-49

Growing its Overall Audience for the 3rd Consecutive Week, ABC's "Ugly Betty" Sophomore Finale Generates its Top Viewer and Young Adult Numbers Since January

"Grey's Produces ABC's Top Viewer and Young Adult Numbers in the Time Period In Over 1 Year, Representing the Series' Most-Watched Telecast Since November

Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

With season finales for "Ugly Betty" and "Grey's Anatomy," ABC towered over its Thursday night competition, which included summer season premieres on Fox ("So You Think You Can Dance" from 8:00-10:00 p.m.) and NBC ("Last Comic Standing" from 9:30-11:00 p.m.). During primetime, ABC beat out second-place Fox by 6.2 million viewers (14.8 million vs. 8.6 million) and by 62% in Adults 18-49 (5.5/16 vs. 3.4/10). On the heels of its Thursday night May Sweep victory, ABC won its 5th consecutive Thursday with Adults 18-49. The Net also dominated Thursday in the other two key adult demos: AD18-34 (5.1/16) and AD25-54 (6.3/17).

ABC attracted its biggest Thursday audience in more than 1 year and its highest Adult 18-49 number on the evening since season premiere Thursday in September since 5/17/07 and 9/27/07, respectively.

Editors Please Note: ABC's 2-hour season finale for "Lost" will air next Thursday (5/29/08) from 9:00-11:00 p.m.

"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition in the 8 o'clock hour, including Fox's season premiere of "So You Think You Can Dance" and NBC's "Deal or No Deal," ABC's "Ugly Betty" took a solid second place in Total Viewers (8.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.8/9), while ranking No. 1 with Adults 25-54 (3.4/10-tie).

Posting its top numbers since January (1/24/08) in viewers and young adults, "Betty" finished out its sophomore season growing its overall audience for 3 weeks straight and its Adult 18-49 audience for 2 consecutive weeks.

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-11:00 p.m.)

In its fourth-season finale, "Grey's Anatomy" shot to the top of its 2-hour time period and was far and away the No. 1 TV show on Thursday in Total Viewers (17.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.9/18). In fact ABC's "Grey's" overshadowed the second-highest rated shows of the evening by 7.5 million viewers and by 103% in Adults 18-49 NBC's "Deal or No Deal = 10.3 million viewers and Fox's season premiere of "So You Think You Can Dance" = 3.4/10 in AD18-49. The ABC medical drama concluded its season, marking its 40th straight original telecast as Thursday's No. 1 TV show in Adults 18-49 No. 1 on every single original airing since premiering on the evening in 2006.

"Grey's Anatomy" season closer qualified as TV's highest-rated scripted series telecast in nearly 4 months among Adults 18-49 since an episode of "House" on 2/5/08, which had the advantage of following an episode of "American Idol."

In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, "Grey's" generated ABC's strongest performance in the time period in more than 1 year since 5/3/07 and 5/17/07, respectively. In addition, it was the series' largest audience since November and its highest young adult number since January since 11/15/07 and 1/10/08, respectively.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 16% at the same point in 2006-07, up to more than 24% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
