New shows from both giant networks made their presence felt by moving and shaking the ratings game from October 26 to 30, based on the overnight ratings conducted by AGB Nielsen Philippines among Mega Manila households.

GMA-7's new game show Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade V hosted by Janno Gibbs and ABS-CBN's new reality show Pinoy Mano-Mano: Celebrity Boxing Challenge hosted by Cesar Montano and Bayani Agbayani had impressive debuts last Saturday, Oct. 27, figuring prominently in the Top 10 primetime programs.

Kakasa Ka Ba Sa Grade V, a Mark Burnett production, debuted at No. 2—tied with Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho—with 30.7 percent rating. Pinoy Mano-Mano, featuring the boxing match between TJ Trinidad and Jordan Herrera, placed No. 6 on its pilot episode with 14.9 percent.

The toprater last Saturday, however, was Bitoy's Funniest Videos which posted 32.6 percent rating.

The daytime viewing was dominated by the longest-running noontime show, Eat Bulaga, which got a 23.1 percent rating.

Meanwhile, the last episodes of two superhero series, GMA-7's Fantastic Man and ABS-CBN's Pedro Penduko at Ang Mga Engkantao, placed second and third, respectively. Mark Herras's Fantastic Man got the upper hand with 21.1 percent rating compared to the 17.8 percent rating of Matt Evans's Pedro Penduko.

Last Sunday, October 28, the Kapamilya network ruled the daytime slot as The Buzz (16.9 percent) and ASAP '07 (15.6 percent) grabbed the top two spots. They were closely followed by Kapuso network's SOP at No. 3 (15.4 percent) and Showbiz Central at No. 4 (15.4 percent).

Mel & Joey grabbed the top spot from perennial primetime Sunday leaders Tok! Tok! Tok! and Kap's Amazing Stories. The magazine show of Mel Tiangco and Joey de Leon posted a 27.5 percent rating, against the 26.2 percent of Paolo Bediones's game show and the 24.7 percent of Bong Revilla's video-powered show.

With the entry of GMA-7's new suspense-drama series, La Vendetta, ABS-CBN's Ysabella was bumped off from the Top 10 primetime shows. La Vendetta placed No. 4 (31.1 percent) last Tuesday, October 30, while Ysabella dropped to No. 11 (20.1 percent).

The top three spots remained untouched: Marimar at No.1 (41.9 percent), Zaido at No. 2 (34.4 percent), and 24 Oras at No. 3 (31.5 percent). GMA-7's Koreanovela, Hwang Jini, took the 8th spot.

The highest rater among ABS-CBN shows is Kokey at No. 5 with 27.4 percent, followed by Pangarap Na Bituin at No. 6, Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition at No. 7, TV Patrol World at No. 9, and Lastikman at No. 10.

GMA-7 #1 in URBAN LUZON....PERIOD!

Tok! Tok! Isang Milyon Pasok, at 24 Oras.

An improvement for The CW's "Life Is Wild"

--------------------

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007 (USA).

See Sox. See Rox. See Sox and Rox on FOX. See Sox box Rox on FOX. Sorry FOX. No more Sox.

The Boston Red Sox completed a four-game World Series sweep on Sunday, leaving FOX with a nightly win, but also three more days of repeats instead of baseball.

Overall, FOX averaged a 10.8 rating/17 share for the night, far ahead of the 8.6/14 for ABC or CBS' 7.3/11. NBC (3.2/5) and The CW (0.8/1) were hardly factors.

FOX also did a 6.0 rating among adults 18-49, beating ABC's 5.0 rating in the key demographic. CBS had a 2.6 rating, followed by the 1.7 rating for NBC. The CW's 0.4 rating was just silly.

In the 8 p.m. hour, CBS's "60 Minutes" and FOX's baseball tied with an 8.6/15. ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" was a respectable third, with NBC a distance fourth with NFL post-game. On The CW, "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" repeat did a 0.6/1.

Baseball boosted FOX to an 11.5/18 in the 8 p.m. hour, while ABC moved up to second with an 8.5/13 for "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." CBS' "CSI" repeat did far better than the recently cancelled "Viva Laughlin," with a 6.2/10. NBC's broadcast of "The Bourne Supremacy" was fourth. The CW's "Life Is Wild" had a 0.8/1, pulling in over a million viewers!

In a close 9 p.m. race, FOX's baseball had a 12.2/18, with ABC's "Desperate Housewives" close behind with an 11.8/17. CBS' "Cold Case" was third with a 7.5/11, not quite twice the 4.0/6 for NBC's movie. The CW's "America's Next Top Model" repeat was fifth.

ABC won the 10 p.m. hour with an 8.8/14 for "Brothers & Sisters." CBS' "Shark" had a 6.8/11 for second. "Dateline NBC" was third.

It was an easy Saturday victory for Fox (and more proof that viewers will indeed watch network television on the evening), with game three of the 2007 Baseball World Series at an approximate 13.00 million viewers and a 3.8 rating/12 share among adults 18-49 in prime-time. As a reminder, fast affiliate results for any live sporting event are always approximate.

NCAA Football, the evening’s other live sporting event, averaged an estimated 7.27 million viewers (#3) and a 2.5/ 8 among adults 18-49 (#2) in prime-time. CBS finished second overall in total viewers and third among adults 18-49 with its combination of a repeat of NCIS (Viewers: #3, 6.68 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 4), a repeat pf CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 7.94 million; A18-49: #3, 1.7/ 5), and 48 Hours Mystery (Viewers: #2, 7.51 million; A18-49: #3, 1.8/ 5).

International Television: Baseball game on FOX bats for ratings win!

Fast National ratings for Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007 (USA)

A winner-take-all game in the American League Championship Series -- with some football thrown in for good measure -- brought a ratings victory to FOX Sunday night.

FOX averaged an 11.1 rating/17 share in primetime, easily beating second-place ABC, which came in at 8.2/13. CBS was third in households at 6.7/10, but NBC, 6.6/10, had a slight edge in total viewers. The CW was way off the pace at 1.0/1.

The adults 18-49 crown also went to FOX, which drew a 6.4 rating in the advertisers' favorite demographic. ABC, 4.9, finished second, followed by NBC at 4.2. CBS averaged 2.1 and The CW a meager 0.5.

Late-ending NFL coverage and the post-game show "The OT" averaged 10.8/18 for FOX at 7 p.m. CBS earned a 7.5/13 with "60 Minutes." ABC came in third with "America's Funniest Home Videos," 5.2/9. "Football Night in America" put NBC in fourth, while The CW went with "CW Now" and an "Aliens in America" repeat.

FOX stayed on top at 8 p.m., getting an 11.1/17 from Game 7 of the ALCS between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians. ABC moved up to second with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 8.4/13. NBC's "Sunday Night Football" drew a 7.4/11. "Viva Laughlin" had little to sing about in its time-period debut on CBS, managing only a 4.5/7. The CW's "Life Is Wild" trailed.

At 9 p.m., "Desperate Housewives," 11.3/16, gave ABC the lead in households. FOX, however, had more viewers with its baseball coverage, which scored an 11.2/16. NBC's NFL game, 7.6/11, narrowly beat CBS' "Cold Case" for third. An "America's Next Top Model" rerun posted a 1.1/2 for The CW.

FOX regained the lead at 10 p.m. with the ALCS, 11.2/18. "Brothers & Sisters," 8.1/13, was second for ABC, followed by CBS' "Shark," 7.3/11, and NBC's football game, 7.2/11.

One of the "Harry Potter" Characters is GAY!? J.K. Rowling said

By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer
Sat Oct 20, 2:30 PM ET

NEW YORK - Harry Potter fans, the rumors are true: Albus Dumbledore, master wizard and Headmaster of Hogwarts, is gay. J.K. Rowling, author of the mega-selling fantasy series that ended last summer, outed the beloved character Friday night while appearing before a full house at Carnegie Hall.

After reading briefly from the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," she took questions from audience members.

She was asked by one young fan whether Dumbledore finds "true love."

"Dumbledore is gay," the author responded to gasps and applause.

She then explained that Dumbledore was smitten with rival Gellert Grindelwald, whom he defeated long ago in a battle between good and bad wizards. "Falling in love can blind us to an extent," Rowling said of Dumbledore's feelings, adding that Dumbledore was "horribly, terribly let down."

Dumbledore's love, she observed, was his "great tragedy."

"Oh, my god," Rowling concluded with a laugh, "the fan fiction."

Potter readers on fan sites and elsewhere on the Internet have speculated on the sexuality of Dumbledore, noting that he has no close relationship with women and a mysterious, troubled past. And explicit scenes with Dumbledore already have appeared in fan fiction.

Rowling told the audience that while working on the planned sixth Potter film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," she spotted a reference in the script to a girl who once was of interest to Dumbledore. A note was duly passed to director David Yates, revealing the truth about her character.

Rowling, finishing a brief "Open Book Tour" of the United States, her first tour here since 2000, also said that she regarded her Potter books as a "prolonged argument for tolerance" and urged her fans to "question authority."

Not everyone likes her work, Rowling said, likely referring to Christian groups that have alleged the books promote witchcraft. Her news about Dumbledore, she said, will give them one more reason.

International Television: CBS wins Thursday, but its new series "Viva Laughlin" bled

Fast National ratings for Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 (USA)

"CSI" and "Survivor" led CBS to a ratings win Thursday night, but a preview of the new show "Viva Laughlin" came up snake eyes.

CBS earned a 9.0 rating/14 share in primetime, beating out ABC, 8.2/13, for the lead. FOX grabbed third with a 7.5/12 (its numbers are likely to change some, as it had live sports). NBC, 5.3/8, came in fourth, and The CW trailed with a 2.5/4.

ABC scored a narrow win among adults 18-49, drawing a 4.5 rating to beat out CBS' 4.4. NBC finished third in the demographic at 3.7, followed by FOX, 3.3, and The CW, 1.6.

Lloyd Owen of "Viva Laughlin"

"Survivor: China" scored an 8.5/14 to win the 8 p.m. hour for CBS. FOX's coverage of the American League Championship Series drew a 7.0/11, edging ABC's "Ugly Betty" for second. "My Name Is Earl," 4.6/8, and "30 Rock," 3.9/6, put NBC in fourth. "Smallville" delivered a 3.1/5 for The CW.

CBS stayed on top at 9 p.m. with "CSI," 12.7/19. "Grey's Anatomy," 11.8/18, moved ABC into second and was also the night's top show among adults 18-49. Baseball on FOX was third, while "The Office" scored a 4.9/7 for NBC. "Supernatural," 1.9/3, closed the night for The CW.

FOX's numbers for baseball at 10 p.m. were unavailable. Among the other networks, NBC's "ER" led the way with a 6.6./11. "Big Shots" was second in households for ABC at 6.0/10. CBS' "Viva Laughlin" (5.8/10) had a few more viewers than ABC, but the murder mystery-with-music lost more than half of its lead-in audience and also fell at the half-hour mark.

Makati City Bombing - Philippines

(10th UPDATE) Eight killed, 129 hurt in Makati mall blast

Eight people were killed while at least 129 others were injured after an explosion ripped through an upscale mall in Makati City Friday afternoon.

"As of 8:00 this evening, we have accounted for eight casualties and 129 injured. They are scattered I think in three hospitals in Makati," National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director General Geary Barias said in an interview with ANC’s Crossroads.

Officials also reported that ten persons were reported missing. Fire and rescue authorities were still searching for bodies they suspect may be trapped under the debris thrown by the powerful blast.

A report said among those injured were two South Koreans and a Chinese citizen.

Reuters reported that police sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said traces of C4 plastic explosives were found at the location. The bomb appeared to have been left near a cellphone repair shop at the bottom of an escalator, they said.

Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon earlier debunked reports that the blast that hit Glorietta 2 ground level at 1:30 p.m. was caused by a gas leak.

"This was a bomb. But beyond that we can't say anything else yet because we are still investigating. What I can say is it was not [liquefied petroleum gas] that caused this," Razon told reporters.

He said there was still no conclusive evidence to determine if the blast was caused by a C-4 bomb, a military explosive, or any other improvised explosive device. He added that the police cannot definitely say if the explosion was a terrorist attack.

Barias said that specimens gathered from the crime scene were already forwarded to the crime laboratory for chemical analysis.

"Hopefully tonight or first hour tomorrow (Saturday), we would have results of this analysis that they will undertake. That will be the only time by which we could give you a picture of what explosives, or if it is indeed explosives, that were used in the explosion that happened this afternoon," said Barias.

The United States and Australia both offered technical help in investigating the blast. Members of the US Federal Bureau of investigation were reported to be already at the site observing the police’s investigation.

Barias said police had not received any threats about an attack.

The NCRPO chief said that security guards detailed at the mall have been given proper training.

"[Security guards] here in Glorietta have undergone bomb identification training so that should still be their responsibility in the security of the malls," he said.

He still expressed confidence that their blast investigators are qualified to handle the incident despite several reactions from groups wanting an independent body to also probe the bomb incident.

"I still have faith for our bomb blast investigators who have been trained also abroad. If that’s an observation, that could also be a good observation. But I can assure you na ang mga bomb blast investigators natin have extensive training on this. Their exposure is even as far as Mindanao. Remember may mga explosion na nagaganap sa Mindanao and these are the same team, the same people we have been using for our post blast investigation," he said.

He also assured the public that authorities will conduct a thorough investigation to eventually determine the suspects behind the incident.

"It’s too early to say who is the author of this. First, wala tayong nakalap na (we did not receive) intelligence information before this happened. Even up to this time, nobody claimed this incident kung sino ang may kagagawan (or who was the perpetrator)," he said.

Barias in an earlier interview said bomb debris carpeted a 200 square-meter area in the mall. "The ceilings are damaged and may collapse," Barias said.

The explosion ripped through the roof of the mall and damaged nearby shops. Debris from the blast were scattered on the streets.

A general alert has been issued for the rest of the city and for the international airport, officials said. A meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) was called for later in the day.

Barias placed all police units in Metro Manila on full alert status and ordered district offices to put up more checkpoints in the metropolis. He added that he will order more policemen deployed in nearby malls to maintain peace and order.

"We will send policemen to other malls to restore order especially here in Makati and to prevent any untoward incident," Barias told reporters.

The blast, which occurred during lunch-hour, spread panic in the city of 12 million people, which has in the past been the scene of attacks by Muslim separatist rebels.

Several shoppers said the blast was heard from a nearby baby store in the mall. Liana Navarro, sister of Black and White Movement’s Leah Navarro and who was in the mall with her mother, said several people including children were seen with "obvious injuries."

Another witness, Arel Vertucio, said the explosion was so strong that it was felt up to the third level of the mall. Vertucio said he saw some people lying on the ground.

Eyewitness Icy Marinas was only 15 meters away from the Glorietta explosion when it occurred. She said the blast felt like an "intense earthquake."

She said she saw a pregnant woman crying after the blast while other women started rushing out of the mall with their families. She added that she saw "three bloodied men" near the blast site while the security guards just stood around with no reaction.

Charlie Nepomuceno, an employee at the Glorietta mall, said the powerful explosion appeared to have centered on an escalator.

"It left a deep crater at the foot of the escalator," he said. "It also ripped open the roof of the building. I saw a man thrown on to the roof who had lost a leg."

He said a badly mangled body of a woman was near the escalator.

Manila has largely been spared a spate of bomb attacks by Muslim rebels that have plagued the southern Mindanao region. But it has been hit in the past. A series of bomb blasts in 2000 killed at least 22 people.

President Arroyo ordered the police to "leave no stone unturned" in its investigation on the explosion.

"The President is deeply saddened by this incident and extends her sympathies to the families of the casualties…She has also ordered the PNP to get to the bottom of things and to leave no stone unturned," Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said in a statement.

Bunye said the President also ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development to extend assistance to the victims.

Arroyo in a statement Friday early evening also issued a stern warning against those who want to take advantage of the Makati mall blast.

"I warned those who seek to destabilize our government not to exploit this incident for their selfish political motives," Mrs. Arroyo said following her emergency meeting with the NSC and other officials in Malacañang.

Mrs. Arroyo said that the government is undertaking measures to ensure that the incident would not happen again including ordering the Philippine National Police to go on a high alert and the deployment of additional 2,000 cops in Metro Manila.

"This is a time for all of us to unite. Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat (I hope our countrymen understand the measures we are implementing. Thank you)," she said.

After her NSC meeting, Mrs. Arroyo immediately went to visit patients confined at the Makati Medical Center who were among those injured during what authorities called a possible terrorist attack in the upscale mall in Makati City. With reports from Reuters, Agence France-Presse

George Lucas: 'Star Wars' Series Not Far, Far Away

Attention, TV executives: The Force may soon be with you.

Filmmaker George Lucas said Tuesday that he has "just begun work" on a live-action television series rooted in the "Star Wars" universe, which is huge news not just for fans of the science-fiction epic but also for networks looking for a piece of the Lucas magic that has grossed $4.3 billion in theaters worldwide.

There is a caveat, though: The proposed series doesn't have anyone named Luke or Anakin in it, a story path that Lucas concedes is "taking chances" as far as connecting with an audience expecting the familiar mythology.

"The Skywalkers aren't in it, and it's about minor characters," Lucas said in an interview. "It has nothing to do with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or any of those people. It's completely different. But it's a good idea, and it's going to be a lot of fun to do."

Lucas joked that the series would be about "the life of robots" but wouldn't let any details slip about the true premise. The "extended universe" of "Star Wars" has come to life already in Lucas-sanctioned novels, comics and games that chronicle the history of the Jedi and tell the tales of bit players in the films, such as the bounty hunters from "The Empire Strikes Back."

Rumors of a live-action TV series have been percolating for some time; at the 2006 Comic-Con in San Diego, Lucasfilm announced a show would be on the air "later in this decade."

Lucas already has another television series percolating: Lucas Animation has been working for months on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a computer-animated series that he hopes will introduce a new era of visuals to weekly episodic television. Lucas plans to produce it through his own companies before shopping the finished product to networks.

That model may also be used for the live-action show, although producer Rick McCallum said Tuesday that it's too early to say. McCallum is interviewing writers for the live-action series.

Lucas is confident he can find a home for his droids and Jedi, but he also knows the projects are unorthodox enough to give network executives pause.

"They are having a hard time," Lucas said. "They're saying, 'This doesn't fit into our little square boxes,' and I say, 'Well, yeah, but it's "Star Wars." And "Star Wars" doesn't fit into that box.' "

THE HOUSEMATES. First of the eight housemates na ni-reveal ay ang "True Lover" na si Will Devaughn, isang German-Afro-American model; ang Brave Kids Foundation ang kanyang napili. Love brought Will to the Philippines.

"That's all I need now: family and friends," sabi ni Will habang papasok sa Bahay ni Kuya.

"[Ang] lola ko nung time ng World War II, she helped the Philippine and the American army in which she was recognized by the U.S.

He works for ABS-CBN Davao at member ng Joke Squad.

Tinawag siyang "The Good Brother" ni Kuya at magiging 2-in-1 partner ni Baron.

ANDREW & ETHEL .

Lumabas sa exam ni Andrew na may tendency siyang maging masyadong pisikal, kaya delikado for the other housemates.
