Despite the presence of "American Idol" Thursday, CBS still managed to hold off FOX and score a partial ratings victory.
CBS led the night's overall tally with a 9.7 rating/15 share, narrowly beating FOX's 9.2/15. NBC finished third at 4.7/8. ABC's 3.8/6 was good for fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.4/2.
FOX did grab the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 5.4 rating. CBS took second in the key demographic with a 4.5, topping NBC's 3.4. ABC averaged 1.6 and The CW 0.7.
The "American Idol" results show scored an 11.8/19 for FOX at 8 p.m., easily winning the hour. "Survivor: Micronesia - Fans vs. Favorites" drew a 6.9/11 for CBS. "My Name Is Earl," 4.4/7, and "30 Rock," 3.7/6, put NBC in third, ahead of a "Desperate Housewives" repeat on ABC. A "Smallville" rerun on The CW earned a 1.6/3.
CBS took the lead at 9 p.m. with "CSI," the night's most-watched show at 12.5/19. FOX fell one spot with "Don't Forget the Lyrics," 6.7/10. The return of "The Office," 5.4/8, and "Scrubs," 4.1/6, kept NBC in front of a second "Desperate Housewives," 4.1/6, on ABC. The CW went with a "Supernatural" rerun.
At 10 p.m., CBS' "Without a Trace" dominated the hour with a 9.8/16. "ER," 5.2/9, finished second for NBC, beating out "Eli Stone," 4.0/7, on ABC.
