ABC Pilot: "Maid In Manhattan"

ABC's Got It 'Maid' with Jennifer Lopez
Star to produce pilot based on her movie 'Maid in Manhattan'

Add one more unlikely suspect to the long and ever-growing list of remakes and updates in the TV pipeline.

That would be "Maid in Manhattan," the 2002 Jennifer Lopez romantic comedy in which she played a maid at a posh New York hotel who catches the eye of a politician ( Ralph Fiennes) when he mistakes her for a wealthy socialite. ABC is in negotiations with the film's producers to adapt it for television.

Chad Hodge ("Runaway," "Tru Calling") is on tap to write the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Rather than a straight remake, though, the show will use the movie's setup -- single mom from the Bronx works as a maid in fancy hotel -- as the starting point for a dramedy about her relationships with her co-workers and, occasionally, the hotel's guests.

Hodge will also executive produce with Lopez, Joe Roth, whose Revolution Studios released "Maid in Manhattan," and the film's producer Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. Nina Lederman and Simon Fields will also be exec producers.

"Maid in Manhattan" joins a huge list of remakes, adaptations and updates on TV this season. The fall schedule will feature seven such shows on the broadcast networks, ranging from The CW's "90210" update to NBC's "Crusoe," and a bunch more projects are in development. Earlier this week ABC gave a put pilot order to an adaptation of "The Witches of Eastwick," and new versions of "The Streets of San Francisco" ( CBS), "The Prisoner" (AMC) and " Hawaii Five-O" (CBS), among others, are in the works.
