Game show premiere delivers ratings win

A new version of the game show "Password" brought CBS an overall ratings win Sunday, although NBC scored a narrow victory among adults 18-49.
CBS averaged a 5.6 rating/10 share for the night, beating out NBC's 4.3/8. FOX and ABC tied for third in households at 2.5/5 and finished in a dead heat among total viewers as well (FOX had a lead of fewer than 100,000 people). The CW managed only a
0.6/1.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, NBC's 1.8 rating was good for the top spot. FOX took second with a 1.7, followed closely by CBS at 1.6. ABC finished fourth at 1.2, and The CW barely registered at 0.3.
CBS broke on top at 7 p.m. with "60 Minutes," 6.6/13. NBC's "Most Outrageous Moments," 2.8/5, and ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" rerun, 2.7/5, were in a virtual tie for second. A repeat of "Don't Forget the Lyrics" put FOX in fourth, while The CW went with a "One Tree Hill" encore.
The premiere of the Regis Philbin-hosted "Million Dollar Password" scored a 6.8/12 for CBS at 8 p.m. "Most Outrageous Moments" improved to 3.7/7 for NBC. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 3.2/6, kept ABC in third, ahead of "The Simpsons," 2.7/5, and "King of the Hill," 2.4/4, on FOX. Reruns of "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Aliens in America" ran on The CW.
At 9 p.m., a "Cold Case" repeat (5.3/9) held the lead for CBS. "Dateline" posted a 5.0/8 for NBC. "Family Guy" and "American Dad" averaged 3.2/5 for FOX (and led the hour among adults 18-49). ABC slipped to fourth with a "Desperate Housewives" rerun, and The CW closed its night with "The Game" and "Girlfriends."
NBC took the lead at 10 p.m. with a second hour of "Dateline," 5.8/10. "The Unit" scored a 3.6/6 for CBS, and ABC trailed with a "Brothers & Sisters" rerun, 1.9/3.
Weekend ratings: CBS led Friday's race with a 4.1/7, edging NBC's 4.0/7. ABC (3.3/6) was third, followed by The CW (2.2/4) and FOX (1.8/3). On Saturday, FOX's 3.1/6 was the best of a tightly bunched field, with CBS (2.8/5), ABC (2.7/5) and NBC (2.6/5) all close behind. CBS' night featured the debut of its mixed martial arts series, which drew its best numbers after 11 p.m.
