Showbiz Central host John "Sweet" Lapus got an exclusive interview with Kris Aquino, who used to be the host of their rival program The Buzz, during the recent 13th birthday celebration of the actress-TV host's first son, Joshua.
In the interview aired last Sunday, June 1, John asked Kris about her mother, former President Cory Aquino, who is suffering from colon cancer.
"It's happy time kasi parang ang laki ng difference sa mom ko," related Kris. "From the time na nag-celebrate si Baby James na nanghihina talaga siya, 'tapos hindi talaga siya puwedeng makihalubilo sa mga tao. Now, nakita mo naman siya, di ba? The healthy appetite, maraming nakakain, and my mom is surviving the chemo and improving blood works niya and all."
After this, Kris took the opportunity to show her appreciation to the people who prayed for her mom. "Siguro I'll take this opportunity na rin na mag-thank you sa lahat ng tao na continuous ang pagdarasal para sa kanya. 'Yon talagang I really, really prayed so hard. Sabi ko sana, ‘Please strengthen my mom and don't make her suffer too much.' And I think, because sa lahat ng taong nagpre-pray, nakakayanan niya talaga. And she says naman, e, she's not in pain, it's just na nanghihina talaga siya sa chemotherapy."
Kris also said that she is amazed by the courage of her mom. "Through it all, I've never really seen my mom cried. The only time was noong birthday ni Baby James na nagte-thank you siya sa mga tao. Pero wala talaga, ganun ka-strong yung mommy ko."
If there is one person who really got affected by the current situation of the former president, Kris said it would be Josh.
Kris narrated, "Out of the blue siguro, he would cry kasi hindi niya ma-express why he was sad. But talagang nagulat kaming lahat. And then, alam mo, nung time na 'yon na sabay pa na magpi-first birthday yung isa, na si Baby James nagsisimula nang magsalita, so parang double whammy sa kanya. Siya [Josh] yung nag-i-insist talaga na, ‘Lola's not sick.'"
Despite this, Kris said that she noticed that her son is slowly trying to accept the situation. "Ngayon, at least, nakikita ko na si Josh parang naka-adjust na rin sa situation," she quipped.
ON HER "BOYS." Kris admitted that Josh used to be jealous to his younger brother, Baby James. "Kasi noong bagong labas 'yan [Baby James] pinapabalik niya [Josh] sa tiyan ko. ‘Mama, ibalik na siya," said Kris.
Kris now sees a difference on the relationship between her two boys. She said to John, "They're very close now, nagmamahalan na sila. At gusto na ni Josh na sumasama sa kuwarto niya [Baby James] and all. Si Baby James talaga, nakikita ko how much he loves his kuya."
The Wheel of Fortune host also thinks that Baby James's arrival had a positive impact on Josh, who is a special child. She said, "I really feel na siguro dumating si Baby James din sa life ni Josh para kung wala ako, wala ang mom ko, mayroon talagang I know na mamahalin siya. Kasi he came from me, e, at aalagaan siya come what may."
Meanwhile, John also asked Kris about her husband, Purefoods player James Yap. Kris said that she miss watching the games of her husband lately. "Kasi Wednesday at Friday ang regular na laro at 'yon ang taping ko. But we record everything," she explained.
It could be remembered that the couple has gone through a lot of trials last year when a controversy between them and a certain employee of a surgical center came out. But all of these have already been forgotten.
"I have to say this na, I think in the past few weeks siguro, we've really made an effort to strengthen our relationship. Siguro ang masasabi ko, throughout my mom's illness, wala akong masasabi sa support at sa tiyaga rin ni James," Kris complimented her husband.
At the end of the interview, Kris showed her gratitude to her mom who tries to feel stronger despite her illness. She said, "Thank you for making the effort to always be there for us. Noong birthday ni Baby James, she made sure she was here. Ayaw ko lang talagang makitang mahirapan ang mom ko. So, thank God na lumalakas [siya]."
For the birthday boy, Kris said, "You're mama's first love. Kung nandiyan man si Baby James, ikaw ang kuya. Lahat kami we always make sure na nararamdaman mo kung gaano ka namin kamahal.
"Ngayon, napaparamdam mo sa aming lahat na naiintindihan mo kami, na minamahal mo ang baby brother mo at tinuturuan mo pa siya. Josh, you're such a good person. Pina-promise lang talaga ni Mama ngayon na hanggang sa makakayanan ko talaga, sisiguraduhin kong kumportable at masaya ang buhay para sa iyo."
