Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008 (USA)
On the one hand, Tuesday's "American Idol" premiere was off a fair amount from last year's debut. On the other, it still destroyed everything in its path.
Surprising absolutely no one, FOX and "Idol" dominated the night with a 17.8 rating/26 share in households and 33.2 million viewers (down about 11 percent from last year's 37.4 million). CBS led the rest of the pack with an 8.7/13, followed by NBC at 5.8/9. ABC, 3.4/5, finished fourth, and The CW trailed with a 1.4/2.
In the adults 18-49 demographic, FOX's 13.8 rating beat the combined total of the other four networks (but was, again, down from last year's "AI" opener). NBC was a distant second at 3.5. CBS, 2.6, came in third, with ABC (1.4) fourth and The CW (1.0) fifth.
"America Idol" host, Ryan Seacrest
"American Idol" delivered a 16.8/21 for FOX at 8 p.m. An original "NCIS" scored a 9.9/15 for CBS, keeping its "Idol"-proof reputation intact. "The Biggest Loser," 4.3/6, put NBC in third, ahead of an hour of "Just for Laughs," 3.0/4, on ABC. The CW aired a repeat of "Reaper."
FOX saw its "Idol" numbers rise to 18.8/27 at 9 p.m. CBS stayed in second with part two of "Comanche Moon," 8.1/12. "The Biggest Loser" improved to 5.0/7 on NBC. "According to Jim" and a "Carpoolers" repeat kept ABC in front of The CW and "One Tree Hill," 1.8/3 (although The CW did top ABC in adults 18-49 for the hour).
At 10 p.m., NBC's "Law & Order: SVU" (8.1/13) won the hour in households and adults 18-49, but "Comanche Moon," 7.9/13, brought in a few more total viewers for CBS. ABC got a 4.8/8 from "Boston Legal."
