A night full of new programming led NBC to the top of the ratings heap Tuesday.
NBC averaged a 7.6 rating/12 share for the night, beating its closest competition by more than 3 million viewers. CBS, 5.5/9, finished second in households, although FOX, 5.4/8, had more total viewers (8.6 million to 8.09 million). ABC was well off the pace at 3.0/5, and The CW clocked a 2.3/4.
The story was similar in the adults 18-49 demographic, where NBC led with a 4.6 rating. FOX, 2.8, was the only other network to finish above 2.0. CBS took third at 1.9, followed by The CW at 1.5, while ABC brought up the rear with a 1.3.
A repeat of "NCIS," 8.1/13, put CBS on top at 8 p.m. NBC got a 5.6/9 from "The Biggest Loser." A "Bones" repeat on FOX finished third, topping "Just for Laughs," 4.2/7, and "According to Jim," 3.3/5, on ABC. The season premiere of "One Tree Hill" drew a 2.3/4 for The CW.
NBC moved into the lead at 9 p.m. as "The Biggest Loser" improved to 7.3/11. "House," 6.8/10, grabbed second for FOX. The People's Choice Awards earned a 4.9/7 for CBS. ABC remained in fourth with coverage of the New Hampshire primary and "Carpoolers." A second hour of "One Tree Hill" ticked up slightly to 2.4/4.
"Law & Order: SVU" snagged the night's best rating (10.0/17) for NBC at 10 p.m. The People's Choice Awards fell to 3.5/6 on CBS, and a repeat of Sunday's "Cashmere Mafia" premiere drew a 2.5/4 for ABC.
