Finals ratings up but not great; CBS' 'Swingtown' has decent start
Fast National ratings for Thursday, June 5, 2008
Improved ratings for the NBA Finals helped ABC capture Thursday's ratings title, while CBS' much-talked-about series "Swingtown" got off to an OK start.
ABC led the night with a 6.3 rating/11 share (those numbers may change because of its live broadcast). CBS took second in households with a 6.0/10, but FOX, 5.6/10, had more total viewers (9.08 million to 8.75 million for CBS). NBC finished third at 3.3/6, and The CW trailed with a 1.2/2.
Among adults 18-49, ABC's 3.7 rating led the way. FOX grabbed second in the advertisers' favorite demographic with a 3.3. CBS, 2.3, came in third, beating out NBC's 2.1. The CW managed only a 0.6.
A "Jimmy Kimmel Live" special, 5.2/10, and the NBA pregame show, 5.8/10, put ABC on top at 8 p.m. A "CSI" rerun on CBS, 5.5/10, tied for the lead in households, but trailed both ABC and FOX's "So You Think You Can Dance" (5.2/9) in viewers. "Last Comic Standing" was fourth for NBC, beating the 1.2/2 for "Smallville" on The CW.
Game 1 of the NBA Finals, featuring the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers, drew a 6.6/11 at 9 p.m. but "So You Think You Can Dance," 6.0/10, led the hour in total viewers. A second "CSI" put CBS in third. "Last Comic Standing" improved a little to 3.4/6. The CW held steady with a "Supernatural" repeat.
At 10 p.m., the Celtics-Lakers game rose to 6.9/12, a sizable improvement over last year's low-rated Game 1. The premiere of "Swingtown" drew a 6.0/10 for CBS, while on NBC the debut of "Fear Itself" came in at 3.5/6.
